I really like how the staccato verses give way to that fucking gorgeous chorus melody in Aloo. top tier Weezer comfortably

I just relistened to all of SZNZ and liked a lot more of it than I thought. The weakest one is Autumn for me, which I only saved Run Raven Run and Francesca from

This is the worst one, but the verses are good and I don’t skip it if I’m playing the EP so I think I even come down positive overall on that song

I like Aloo because I close my eyes and imagine it being recorded like a Weezer song and that imagining is pleasing to me.

I've said it before but Rivers might actually be one of the best chorus writers of all time

I kinda agree but, for the sake of spicy discussion, is it because he is one of the best chorus writers or is it because some of his verses are so cloyingly generic and/or painful that the choruses seem even better than they are due to the jarring discrepancy in quality and good-Weezer-ness?

hero has a solid core but it's too fucking long, cut out a minute worth of chorus repeats and it's a certified banger. song has no right to be almost 4 minutes long

If anyone has the vinyl bonus songs for SZNZ kickin' around, lemme know. Only managed to get my hands on two of them.

He said in an interview once he had a binder in an effort to study Nirvana and Green Day songs (which also have great choruses) which is one of the many reasons. Also dude is just insanely talented/smart/prolific. Probably not the best hang though.

I think only vinyl for the first two currently exist, still waiting on the other two to be pressed

Ah makes sense. I believe there was a rumor of a whole vinyl box set which would be nice as I can properly organize all the mp3's into one album vs playing four EP's.

  21. "Hero" is corny as hell I'm sorry, rest of the album is fun

Anyways Red-Hurkey is definitely the nadir of their career, Rad and Hurley in particular. They all have bonus tracks that should have replaced some of the album tracks. Working on my own personal record that compiles the best tracks from all three, will post when I've got it

  24. I just recorded a podcast with my band where we all agreed that Make Believe is generally good, and they're not like big Weezer fans lol

I was doing a Peloton ride and the instructor played Beverly Hills and was rocking out to it and calling it one of the best Weezer songs and it reminded me that normal people like the bad Weezer songs that cool 40 year old music nerds hate on.
