Alright I’ll jump in. As someone who’s married to a Japanese woman and whose children are half Japanese I was unaware of any racist comments/portrayals Matty made. It definitely grosses me out and is absolutely unacceptable. My wife is also a huge fan of this band along with me so I’m curious to what her reaction is. I shall tell her shortly.


However. Many people seem to go out of their way to mock the band and pile on Matty routinely. Most of the criticism I’ve heard before this recent controversy is in bad faith. Just like that one I quoted.

 

He's a prick

If he didn't want the general public to realize this he'd keep his mouth shut - but he doesn't because he firmly believes in the classic showbusiness adage of 'there's no such thing as bad publicity'

 

All of this fucking sucks.

I'm just so focused on the music side of things that I don't hear about this shit till its all over tiktok now.

So now its like I have to put Matty as a person in the same box as Kanye labeled "Yeah he makes great music, but as a person right now he fucking sucks"

That's all I have to say because you all know I love this band with every fiber of my being.

 

trying to stay out of this conversation but... Ryan Adams is selling out Carnegie Hall and touring from The Ryman all the way to Australia and New Zealand in the next six months. what you're saying is that he doesn't get to enjoy good press and there are a huge chunk of people who think he's in asshole and don't like to put on his music anymore.

I stared at that photo for so long, so confused, before realizing this is House not Breakfast

I mean, she pretty much said this verbatim in her quotes in the interview, and they did it anyway. Kind of scummy.

 

Reporting in from me just getting home after Finsbury. We got the house set and a semi-BFIAFL set to boot.

Love Me tour debut in the BFIAFL half, with Tim coming out to do All I Want To Hear (and Matty visibly crying in a lot of camera shots in the background).

Medicine & acoustic Paris in the ATVB section. Consumption (meat + pushups) at the very end of the set, rudely cut off by the strict 9:30pm Sunday noise curfew.

Very good show, and great undercard of supporting acts too.

 

I've seen a lot of clips on TikTok of their festival shows from the last week or so.

I would love to see them in that kind of atmosphere.

Matty doing something sensual in front of a camera wow next somebody is going to share a video of drinking booze and smoking on stage and go “Doesn’t he know that he has young fans?!?!?!”

 

Also, the camera operator is part of the touring party, he’s not just a random camera person hired for the festival/show.

 

Agree he’s done/said some stupid shit lately, but that’s a pretty big teach imo

 

I wish I knew how to respond to that without getting my ass chewed out but..

I've seen this band 3 times and I'd rather him hump a fucking camera than him all strung out on hardcore drugs and/or dead.
