If you are only able to look online what was mentioned previously is your best bet. If you are are able to look in person I recommend an apartment finding company as well. I used a company called Chicago Apartment Finders, which was under Coldwell Banker at the time. Not sure if any of those kind of companies are still around, but I had a really good experience with them.

I know this has been happening downtown more and more but now it’s happening in busier areas.

What's the reason for this? Just kids being bored? Tiktok?

Feels unbearably hot/ humid today. Dunno what I’d do without a working AC unit.

We have a unit in our bedroom and one in the living room. The one in the bedroom stopped working stopped working last night so I spent the night on the couch. My wife didn't mind it lol (although she does hate it when I sleep with our dog and cat and not her).

I sprinted down to Walmart to get a new one earlier today. I changed it and found out there was s squirrel's nest in there. There was a giant twig sticking out of the AC.

Also traffic is just absolutely fucked around the city today. Was out late AM/noonish. NASCAR choking off the other main north/south artery with the Kennedy construction and it is spilling onto the side streets, made worse by 4ofJ traffic and other construction

This weather is karma for Lori and the city greenlighting NASCAR.

not a motorsports fan but the coverage and race itself has been fun so far (notwithstanding the issues with actually having it of course)

How fucked is the city right now? Been in the far west burbs all day and it’s been sunny for like three hours and I have to drive back tonight

Don’t know what attendance was like in person but the NASCAR race did massive numbers on tv. It will likely be back next year for year 2 of the 3 year contract

Can someone refresh my memory - what does the city get out of this? Just a giant check? Like what's the upside?

Honest question, I've largely ignored it or complained about the impact on traffic.

In theory, the city gets boosted tourism income via hotels, parking, food, other shopping, etc. The city also gets to show off the city on national TV in a time when the public perception on national news focuses on the increased crime post pandemic. In practice, it's up for debate on what the actual impact will be because they had the race on a holiday weekend when there is usually a lot of tourism anyway. And some of the museums either closed or had reduced hours. There were also reports of hotels downtown not being as booked as in years past. And locals were largely expected to spend their money in neighborhoods instead of the city. But by all accounts, the race performed well on tv. So it's really a mixed bag, but probably enough of a positive that the city won't fight the contract and we'll have it for the next couple years is my guess. Maybe move the race to a different weekend or something. Who knows.

Anyone has any good parking tips for the Yellowcard show this Sunday at Northerly Island? I usually do SpotHero but the closest one is like almost 2 miles and I really don't want to pay 40 dollars to park there.

could try street (normal, hourly paid that you see on major roads) parking on michigan and 18th and walk past the battle of fort dearborn park and take the pedestrian path under LSD to get onto museum campus grounds
