I think Flashpoint is inherently a fridging storyline because it establishes that Barry's mom has to die in order for him to become the Flash. It's about as bad as Bruce Wayne's parents getting killed every time they go over his origin story. We don't have to see that again and again
in this instance, yes, that is certainly a big part of the issue. Barry's and Bruce's moms being who they are, we never really get to know them, but Supergirl is a well established character across multiple mediums, and one that I just happen to really like.
I can't really provide a rule that will apply in every situation, kind of like how as someone else said the Bechdel test is a useful tool that doesn't necessarily determine how feminist a work is. But generally I'd say... don't kill anyone? GotG3 told a compelling story without killing any of the main cast.

That doesn't really change how I feel about the situation, but yeah, that's generally how it works. In the DCAMU Flashpoint (and I think also the books) Bruce is Bats > Barry saves his mom > Bruce dies in the alley > Thomas becomes Bats (and I think Martha becomes Joker?) > Barry un-saves his mom > Bruce is Bats again

  2. On principle, yeah, I'll have to sit this one out, at least while it's in theaters, because Ezra definitely shouldn't stay.

Your points are compelling, especially the part about the moral being "so-and-so has to die", which I agree is bullshit, and what I like about Across The Spider-Verse is that it's refuting this point.

I also don't like it when characters die, especially if I like them, and I'm a fan of happy endings. However, I don't know if the answer is "don't ever kill anyone".

I think there's a line where we could go too far the other way, and cripple our storytelling abilities because we're afraid of how it looks. I think the right approach isn't to avoid death, but to treat it with the right amount of weight.

You seemed mildly aggressive, so I was just offering a subtle interjection.

I am absolutely never feeling any type of aggressive. Especially with regular like you and @xkaylinh . I was just responding because this movie is so absurd

  7. I'm not about to start shit but like "that's weird lol" did rub me the wrong way

I agree that the movie is absurd, and ultimately the fact that it's dying on the vine is a good thing, as long as Warner takes the right lessons away from its failure, which they won't, so nothing really matters.

Sorry friend. Didn’t mean it any type of way! Was just talking about this movie which has all the weirdness in release and rolliut to it

  10. Yeah, and I'd just like to add to that, if you're gonna kill off a female character, don't do it solely in service of the development of a male character, or at the very least, don't make her a one dimensional side character whose only job is to die

Just saw this. Initial impression is that once again Thai DCU is just too goofy.

The movie is good. The lesson is to keep making good movies, but maybe lose problematic actors.

Just saw this, it didn’t suck. Probably better than the last 3-4 MCU films but that’s not saying much.

I think we’re all just fatigued on the genre.

There needs to be a definite book written (similar to James B Stewart’s DisneyWar) on the absolute fiasco that the last decade of WB and DC Films has been. The Flash being potentially one of the biggest box office bombs in film history when all is said and done feels like a natural end point…. And maybe Aquaman 2’s release and whatever happens with Warners possibly being sold to Comcast as an epilogue

    RIP DCEU 2013 - 2023.

All I’ll say is the movie is better than all the hate it’s getting and the lack of sales. It’s not great, but it was decent enough. I feel like if there wasn’t all the bullshit Miller caused and essentially canceling the current DCEU before this came out then it probably would have done solid numbers. But as a stand-alone movie it was a fine, solid popcorn flick.

I’m glad you all had fun but this is my least favorite film I’ve seen this year thus far. I found this painful to sit thru

I refuse to vote with my dollar and continue to fund the future existence of disney's live action remake abominations so no. I have been to the movies 25 times this year so far though for reference

I feel like at least The Little Mermaid seems to have a good talented lead that deserves better movies (unlike this dogshit) so it has that going for it

I had more fun at this than I did with “Fast X” or the “Super Mario Brothers” movie. Not high praise, but I didn’t think it was that bad.
