I followed both Matt and Brandon when I had Twitter and Brandon subtweeted more while Matt responded more and Brandon's tweets were more frustrating to see but Matt's tweets were more annoying in general because it made me see people I don't give a single fuck about and I had to have such a long block list cuz of Matt

You can put a lot of money into promoting a very professional looking post

most of those will get zero legitimate reach / traction if you haven’t had a lot of lower level interactions with other users to the point that the algorithm cycles your posts into their feed

Like why do you think the NFL insiders themselves are all reply guys? Why do you think Lance Zierlein and John Shipley go out of their way to respond to people like @CarpetElf ? You’d think they “made it” and don’t have to waste time on some random arguing with them on their thread.

bur that lower level engagement with Twitter users quite literally plays a role in keeping their posts the most popular posts on the topic. It’s just how the algorithms work.

 

And why do you think guys like Chris Wesseling (RIP) famously had block lists ten times longer than follow lists

 

I’ve seen him do more than this haha

but I also think if you’re funny / witty enough about it. These posts can add to your reach too. They don’t necessarily make anyone take you more seriously but they can get a lot of cheap reactions and get recycled into feeds that way

I used to listen to the Around the NFL podcast and this was going into the 2018 season. Remember when Jimmy G was dating a porn star? Well, on his podcast, Chris was speaking down on Jimmy, and thus the woman, because of the whole "Oh, well now that he's a famous QB, he needs to make better decisions than to be seen dating a pornstar." I called him out on Twitter, basically being like "What's the issue? Why are we shaming Jimmy and a sex worker? and he blocked me

Now Chris is dead and I would be lying if I said I don't think from time to time about how this guy blocked me

 

I'm sure I've mentioned it before but as far as I am aware Stone Cold Steve Austin is the only "famous" person that's blocked me and I have zero idea why.

 

that’s exactly my point though lol. Accounts even less nuanced than @CarpetElf’s with a similar lack of “legitimacy” actually do get somewhere on social media even if they would have no business being a voice on that topic anywhere else
