I do not know anything specific about the Oasis guys being assholes, just the general sentiment I guess

It’s not about getting hired by some publication per se, it’s about visibility for when he decides to drop sports articles he wrote himself later on

And especially during draft season… randoms who have no real connection to the football industry can end up getting some real reach haha

 

Elf is about as visible as the thousands of people who also make the same comments in others' mentions. The only difference is you know him vs the rest so of course you feel he has a leg up on the others

I genuinely think people who are regulars in specific online circles are a much smaller population than people think

sure there’s a lot of random commenters but there’s only a handful of those who are recurring and who you can expect to always see in certain threads

Chorus has had millions of users over the years but there’s like, less than 30 people who have consistently frequented this thread over the last 5 years

same is true of being a musician. Like, once you get added to that exclusive discord or that exclusive DIY Facebook group, suddenly you realize it’s a really small world and all you gotta do is stay active, the right plugs will eventually notice

I know Twitter is huge and I know a lot of people have football opinions but the population of people consistently appearing in the comment threads of beat writers for specific teams etc is much smaller. And yet, if that team has a viral news story, any of those threads can go viral. Now all of a sudden a guy who is recognized by all those “regulars” ends up being one of the top comments / replies on that viral thread etc

It sounds farfetched but Twitter and IG are designed to cycle those users with consistent engagement into more people’s feeds & you actually can game that system

I am not surprised y’all think I’m oversimplifying this to a ridiculous degree, but as someone who promotes himself on social media, trust me it is that arbitrary and it is that dependent on low-level engagement
