SOS I’ve been stuck at a stopped train for like 17 minutes and I’m so hungry

So they put this Jags / Titans game from 2001 on NFL network today. I was walking by a bar and saw it on and an old coworker was in there, I decided, why not hang for a beer.

why am I not fucking surprised that the Titans “game winning touchdown” was actually a fumble.

The only slow motion angle (from the side) in the YT video doesn’t show the ball actually come out cause there’s a player directly in the way- but it does show Hardy Nickerson clearly get a hand in there well before the goal line, before a guy got in the way of the camera… and then when McNair hits the ground and becomes visible again, he clearly does NOT have the ball in either hand.

The fuller version of the game showed another replay angle from the front view, where the ball clearly comes out of the scrum of players nowhere near McNair before he hits the ground. He ***clearly*** lost a fumble at the 1 yard line, recovered by Jacksonville, but the refs gave him the TD despite a clear view of him down on the goal line without the ball.

 

That said, Brunell is a choke artist confirmed, he basically finished the last minute of the game getting sacked twice by Jevon Kearse. Not having Boselli for this game was definitely a factor as well.

Fred was injured and Jimmy was the leading receiver in the game (7/120 and a TD) despite his team losing… very on brand for both the Jaguars and the fuckin fail-upwards Titans

I gotta give my dude @CarpetElf credit here, I didn’t love the Campbell pick because I wanted Pat Freiermuth and Richie Grant. I thought Campbell was that guy who looked the part and has good technique but does not have the swagger to actually find the ball and knock it down. I called him Davon House 2.0 at one point.

But from draft day onward Matt has been consistent about his take that Campbell might have actually been one of the best value players we could’ve gotten period in the second round. I’d certainly say getting rated the 4th best coverage corner in year 2 is a HUGE value for a non-first rounder.

to top that off,
1) while Muth is excellent, the Engram signing we did a month prior to the draft also turned out to be a huge bargain (probably our best signing tbh) so I was wrong about our need to draft Muth in the first place

2) we got Andre Cisco in round 4 - and not only is Richie Grant unable to break the starting lineup, but Cisco is actually great at EVERY SINGLE THING I thought Grant was gonna be great at.

So that’s really 3 takes in 1 that I got wrong… and I’m happy to admit I was wrong
