Getting Ertz back is HUGE after Becky couldn't make it back from injury. Hoping Rose will be ready by the start of the tournament

 

I get all the reasons why you bring Rapinoe... but... surely there's someone younger who brings most of those same qualities at this point, yeah?

 

Seriously. But it looks like she does this same impact off the bench role for OL Reign too.

She's probably around to take penalties if we are being honest though.

 

Lot of mixed feelings about the roster. JJ has been looking more and more like herself every game with ACFC. It’s a gamble but if she’s 100% by the time the Cup starts it’s a huge win.

Definitely mixed feelings on Pinoe. But other than her, that group of forwards is NASTY. Probably our fastest roster of forwards. A young, fast, hungry group itching to score goals is gonna be a blast to watch.

Real excited DeMelo snuck in and grabbed a spot. I’m so happy for Huerta and Kristie Mewis. They’ve both fought real hard to get here. I think ultimately this is a pretty fun team that has a real shot

 

The midfield from the first half is so mediocre. Hoping Ertz and/or Lavelle are able to be ready by that Netherlands match.

 

Havent been following much until now whats Rose’s injury situation?

 

Hasn’t played a match since early April. Didn’t play on Sunday.

IIRC she looked like she was gonna get back on the field in May but had a setback.

 

For anyone watching the World Cup, my girlfriend has an ACFC podcast, Casual FC. They put together preview episodes for each team divided up by group stage. I’m a little biased but it’s a great way to get a quick primer on all the teams if you wanna go into the Cup with a little context. Should be available on all the major platforms

I don’t really know much about women’s football, but i’m hoping this continues it’s growth in the UK. The Euros win was massive for it’s popularity. The time difference might be an issue but hopefully people still check it out.

Opening match has been a bit drab but they often are in these tournaments. New Zealand look surprisingly strong, and the home crowd is loud.

 

New Zealand getting their first ever WC win, men or women, is a cool moment.

Spain look really good so far, although it may just be that Costa Rica aren’t up to much. The most dominant performance so far, by far.

 

Spain are unfortunately the favorite in my opinion to win the World Cup. If the USWNT are going to make a run then Ertz has to dominate at the 6 and Rose has to be healthy at the 10.

Sophia Smith is a superstar. The only thing that may prevent her from a golden boot level performance is that she doesn't get to play the 9 for the USWNT.

For tonight's match vs Vietnam...while a blowout is certainly possible, Vietnam will be playing 11 players behind the ball stuffing the middle and this USWNT group isn't great in the air. Also, Vietnam barely lost to Germany, the ranked #2 team in the world, 2-1 and had a breakaway saved with a chance to tie it late. That's the type of thing that can happen if the USA don't score early to open them up.

Of course Vietnam then went and got spanked by Spain but Spain also had 46 shots and 22 corners against Costa Rica...Spain is the type of team that can break down a low block whereas that's something the USWNT has struggled with at times.

 

Keep an eye out for @Ruethless tonight. He’s at the game behind one of the goals. He’s the ridiculously handsome one.
