I just don’t think it’s that simple. The best way to beat KC is to slow down the bleeding, not to aggressively try to stop one guy. If you make that your whole gameplan Reid will score 34+ points despite Kelce catching 2 passes for 17 yards. It’s not like they haven’t done it before. He’ll scheme around that so fast you won’t have time to adjust and catch up haha

 

Reid is scoring 34+ points regardless lol. I don't need to help him by leaving his best weapon wide open because I'm scared of MVS

 

Same as this concept lol. Like those Tweets are an amateur football fan thinking he can pause the screen and if a guy isn’t covered it’s bad coverage. That’s not actually how it works. Teams beat offensive teams with juggernaut weapons all the time by keeping plays in front of them to make tackles, slowing down the rate of explosive plays, and forcing them to be patient.

Like you don’t have to make defensive stops constantly to win a football game. All you need are a few when it matters. If they drive 70 yards down the field but stall in the red zone and get forced to kick a field goal that’s still a win for your defense.

 

Unfortunately we were letting Chad Henne drive 70 yards down the field and actually score the touchdown so I’d say our problems were bigger than Travis Kelce. Like, we did not prepare well enough for Isaiah Pacheco at all.

 

is it fear of MVS,

or is it knowing you can’t beat a Patrick Mahomes offense with man to man, and then having to make compromises with zone because there’s always a hole in zone - but at least it’s easier to make tackles, stop explosive plays and take advantage of setbacks (even ones that aren’t Mahomes fault like penalties etc) that way.

It’s far easier to double cover Kelce in man to man looks than zone looks, because you’re not taking guys out of covering specific parts of the field and leaving that part of the field wide open. However, I feel that you can fully *close* more downfield windows with zone whereas Pat can beat you with elite throws, ball placement, and elite improv all day if you’re not scheming routes away intentionally with zone coverage - even if your man coverage is good.

 

If I wanted to beat the Chiefs I’d literally not change that much about our defensive play calling,

- I would focus more on precise run fits and tackling in open space, because Pacheco being able to gash us made it easier for KC to keep us off guard by mixing up the calls.

-and I would focus on, my Trevor Lawrence offense scoring 30+ points so that when my defense slows down their scoring to 27 that’s a GOOD thing. Cause you ain’t gonna beat KC 24-13, that’s just not happening

 

I do feel like of the chiefs ol wasn’t as good as it is, mahomes would be toast because of how long he hangs onto the ball sometimes

 

To beat the chiefs you just have to have an awesome defense and one of the best qbs of all time, pretty simple

it’s actually also Reid I respect too much to try something as simple as “just cover his best guy”. Some Reid offenses have turned pretty average weapons into explosive offenses. Of course ain’t nobody scared of MVS or Mecole Hardman. But I am scared of how Reid knows exactly the right way to use him as a decoy until you stop covering him, and then exactly the right time to throw a 60 yard bomb to them when you’re focused on something else.

if we were talking about some choke ass coach with an elite weapon that he is overly reliant on, and forces the ball to in obvious non-creative ways (cough Vikings with Jefferson) then yeah I just double that guy every play from the mid third quarter onward, right when they thought they were getting confident with their game plan, and dare that team to figure out something else.
