Yeah…Oda has said so much of the characters and setting are inspired by Disney and cartoons. Translating some of it to live action will look just plain goofy, but they trailer isn’t terrible. Like, I don’t mind they made Buggy skinny and Luffy’s powers look cool. We’ll see. There’s this, Cowboy Bebop, the Avatar live action, and soon the Yu Yu Haksusho live action…Netflix adapting anime and cartoons to live action is a weird niche to do, especially when fans aren’t supportive of it.

It really is. They're never going to win over the original anime fans (especially when they absolutely butcher the source material like they did with Bebop) so word of mouth is going to be immediately negative. They're starting in a hole

I had hope for the cowboy bebop live action, but when they can’t do that well I don’t see them pulling off One Piece.
I’d like to see a Baccano! live action, I think that can be done well

The thing with bebop is they tried to turn an episodic show into a serialized one and cherry picked elements they thought were cool from the source material into what was basically an original (bad) scifi channel show

With this it seems they're at least adapting and compressing an already serialized story. Might still suck but not for the same reasons

This is a point well worth making. Fom the yellow spandex line in x-men all the way to this. Americans do not have the sincerity necessary to adapt goofy shit anymore. We're always embarrassed by it. Then don't fucking adapt it!

I like that Netflix has a “global event” that no one cares about, to announce a slate of movies where like two or three might get an ounce of promotion.

I understand people giving up on it early on. I didn’t particularly love the series until the end of season two when it takes a notable turn toward the warm and fuzzy and never looks back from there. The season two finale was when I realized how endearing I suddenly found everyone and then three brings in Patrick which is when it really takes off. I can understand the capitalistic criticisms of it as well.

not really. if something is silly, don't have a character say "isn't this silly"

    that's all
