The mixing on this album this just keeps me from enjoying it

i personally didn’t love the direction they took on Kodak and i really wish they did more touring on the record because i feel as though my appreciation for Quitter and Bouquet is so much higher knowing i was able to see them several times during each album cycle and i got to see those songs come to life. my two favorite songs by them, ATX and God Damn, both i feel like i wouldn’t love nearly as much if not for the way they hit in a live setting.

they hit Michigan one time during the Kodak era, and AA Almanac could develop into a top song but i’m gonna need more listens.

i really enjoyed the straightforward rock out album that i felt like No Bouquet was. i also love how every album has been pretty distinctively different than the last, and i truly appreciate how much Kyle, especially, has brought to the band. i’m really excited for what is to come, as always, and i hope we can get a lengthy set again sometime like we did on their No Bouquet tour, because there’s just soooo much music now!

Love them all but Kodak never clicked with me the way the others have

They did a lot of touring on this record.. it was just in support of bigger acts.. which is what they need to do to grow. Gotta remember they’re still a really small band.

It’s tough, there were earlier mixes I liked a lot that Nate showed me but I felt at the end the vocals got buried a bit. Not sure what happened. Either way it’s a cool album, I think what comes next will be better!

they did essentially 2 tours on Kodak. MCS and then Matt Maeson, where they were added after the two chicago dates already had sold out. i get what you’re saying, but my point still stands in that i was only able to see them one time during this era, while i saw them probably 12-15 times total during the previous album cycles combined. and of course, i want the band to get bigger and i am happy for the opportunity Nathan continues to get going out with Matt Maeson, i’m just longing for another tour where i can see them play a long set. i’ve traveled plenty of times to see them, Kodak has just been a really unlucky era for routing and my schedule, and i hope they do another string of shows in the midwest before it’s all done so i can hear a set that has a lot of those songs before they move onto the next one.

Yeah, every time I listen to Kodak I feel like Quitter Talk should be the closer. I like Know Your Tell a lot, but I can't imagine where else in the sequence it would make sense. Feels like it could've been a B-side or something.

Totally. Know Your Tell is solid for sure but has b-side vibes since there’s no place to really put it aside from switching spots with Quitter Talk.

I hate mixes where the vocals feel buried so if that’s the case then I think they made the right move with the final mix. I love Nathan’s vocals on it which is just as important as the instrumentals to me when it comes to this band.

Well that’s the thing, the vocals were louder on the earlier mixes lol.

Wouldn't have any need to get those vocals louder, to me it sounds perfect. Sometimes it's a bit of a curse to get to listen to a different take on the mix and get used to the idea

Lol I’m used to it now. My bands album was being mixed by Nate at the same exact time he mixed his record, so he was showing me his mixes a lot and he would show me something he did to his that he also did to ours, pretty cool experience!

I listened to it again today and honestly, I think my disappointment with the record probably wouldn’t have been saved by good production. I think the songwriting just isn’t for me.

But I also feel like the issue is that Nate is too loud in the mix. It’s all like him and drums and the guitars/rhythm feel super neutered. It’s just a combo of mixing, production, and composition.

I feel like Season -> Movement -> Quitter was the sweet spot of this band for me. Songwriting was great and everything sounded so good (though I can see how people might see those as a little overproduced and want some more grit and mess in there).

yeah I did connect the dots with that, I'm familiar with his work with people around here, and of course it sounds like a totally cool experience - it wasn't a dig of course! ;D just stating how curious it is when we hear demos of stuff first and later it's often hard to get used to final tweaks here or there, whether it's really for better or worse. Glad you enjoy the sound in the end!

For me btw. I do like the grit and mess in mixes for sure, but well, it's all so subjective to one's taste

Nate had me make this for a Reddit post, so thought I’d share here since I’m not sure it’s ever been really spelled out clearly.

Self Titled EP (Originally a five song record titled The Spitting EP) was a community label created by Manchester Orchestra. The album was written and performed by Nathan Hussey, Gordon Keiter, Mel Washington, Michael Rogers.

The Season was released on Favorite Gentlemen Records and consisted of Nathan Hussey, Gordon Keiter, Mel Washington, Michael Rogers.

All Get Out underwent a slow rebuild and eventually landed on a more consistent lineup prior to the Movement EP. Movement EP was co-released on Bad Timing Records and Favorite Gentlemen Records.
This lineup included Nathan Hussey, Josh Kean, and Daniel Gleason (Group Love).

Nobody Likes A Quitter was Co-released on Bad Timing Records and Favorite Gentlemen Records and recorded at FGR studios. The album was co-written with Nathan Hussey, Andy Hull, Robert McDowell, and Josh Kean. It was during this time that Kyle Samuel joined All Get Out.

No Bouquet was released on Equal Vision Records. The lineup included Nathan Hussey, Kyle Samuel, Dominic Nastasi, and Andy Prince (Manchester Orchestra).

Kodak was released on Equal Vision Records. Band members consisted of Nathan Hussey Kyle Samuel, Dominic Nastasi, James Gibson.

New Album will be released on Equal Vision Records and consists of Nathan Hussey Kyle Samuel, Dominic Nastasi, James Gibson.

What is this Winston Audio erasure? just kidding I know Grouplove is way more popular and still exists

Not sure why Nate didn't make that himself but cool to read, thanks for sharing. I thought I'd see Gordon or Michael's names later on but I guess they only joined the live setup briefly
