Idk if this is the real reason or not, but from my perspective Union is not really a "neighborhood" park. It's in the middle of the restaurants & bars in West Loop, Lake street which isn't very residential, right north of United Center. I guess there's more residential stuff to the East, but I feel like it's surrounded by a ton of activity already so a festival doesn't really do much other than close the park for a few days. Plus the scale of events there doesn't destroy it quite to the extent of Lolla or Riot Fest I have to imagine. I live like a 10 minute walk from it so I'd definitely welcome more events there.

It's also a more diverse area, idk anything about where Riis park is but I think a lot of the problems with Douglass is it's a mass number of people who otherwise would never go to that community just straight up invading for the weekend. I have mixed feelings on it, but it's hard to blame the residents who get upset, even though at the same time I hope Riot can work it out with them to stay there.

Northerly Island would be perfect, but it's a Livenation venue and this is an AEG event, so that's the disconnect there.

Like matt said, Northerly Island is a Live Nation venue.

The problem with Grant Park is that Lolla’s promoter has exclusivity on any festivals being held there. Same promoter puts on Sueños. They’d object to Reset happening there.

Hasn’t been considered one for my entire life. I think that is changing, though, which you pointed out. I think it may become increasingly difficult in 5-10 years for festivals to continue there.

Diverse in the sense there’s a lot of older Polish, younger Latino families that live out there. Transit is nonexistent outside of the bus and maybe a Metra stop or two.

I just saw Ruido Fest is taking place at Chicagoland Fairgrounds in Little Village, kinda close to Douglass Parks. Maybe it can be a venue solution for smaller fests.

It’s the first I’m hearing of this place and it appears it’s across the street from the Cook County Jail. That’s oddly dystopian.

It also looks to be fairly small.

How have the crowds been at the Boygenius shows so far?

For San Diego it was a big crowd, but nothing too crazy.

I would think that the acts on each day are probably already aware and figuring out alternative venues for themselves. But there’s no way they can accommodate everyone who bought for a specific day.

Guess I should be even happier that I have Boygenius red rocks tickets.

    Have you seen any updates?

Really wish they would just announce the cancellation so I can go to Cleveland instead. Then again I would need to be refunded my $600 to make that happen lol

Nope, nothing reported by Block Club and the festival is silent. Agenda has not changed, either.

Thing is - Park District has said it's conditionally approved but not totally approved. Not sure how to interpret that. I can see AEG trying to go ahead with what they have. The park isn't far from me and I'd think setup would need to start at some point in the next few days so maybe I can make a trip over.

Wow, so it was exactly as I was thinking - they had gotten some approval that circumvented the new process.

I already went to the LCD show on Friday, but I couldn’t go to the boygenius or steve lacy shows on saturday and sunday, so it was really only for those two shows.

    oh! my bad.

With all of the drama surrounding the Chicago weekend I wasn't sure if one of the days had been cancelled or something. Thanks!

Did anyone go to Chicago last night and notice any water stations? Heard there weren't going to be any.
