Maybe now that we have daily lineups we can try and predict aftershows...

I full on expect a Silverstein/Bayside/HH show for Saturday, maybe Concord?

 

Yeah actually thinking about it, a chill Friday is best for conversing energy. Last years Friday had me beat the rest of the weekend.

 

My guesses for Roots/Riot on Friday:

Riot: Foo Fighters, the Breeders, Kim Gordon, Fake Names (or the Wrecks), and Screaming Females
Roots: Turnstile, Code Orange, Quicksand, and Pinkshift

Assuming one less band on Roots to accommodate a 2-hour Foos set.

Interesting to see the hardcore bands dispersed so much throughout the festival.

This full breakdown is making me regret making the decision not to go. This would be a fucking blast of a weekend!

 

TBS could easily get added and headline one of the stages before Say Anything, there's a lot of ways to go - not every stage is 100% curated to genres.. so basically I wouldn't stress out on any conflicts until the schedule comes out.

 

my arbitrary guesses for small stage headliners, & sub each night are
friday: quicksand /braid
saturday: drain/snapcase
sunday: gorilla biscuits/h2o

Hardcore every night at Rebel...maybe they find a way to go no barricade? doubtful but its fun to imagine.

 

I think Interrupters are playing Roots/Riot - maybe even P-Funk, Pinkshift will probably get lumped with Bayside, Say Anything.. I just don't see many hardcore bands besides Turnstile playing the two main stages

 

I'm probably going to do a faux schedule sometime in the next week or so but... I think at least some of this is going to be accurate. Haha. I could especially see GB and H2O closing out Rebel.

Maybe I'm remembering the size of the stage wrong but... Would going "no barricade" even have an impact? I feel like the stage is pretty high compared to a standard club stage.

 

Friday's good, Saturday's great, Sunday's good.

My plan is to attend Friday and Saturday, then take the train home Sunday to see Postal Service/Death Cab in Michigan.

More importantly: They just can't get the spelling of Screaming Females right.

On the first round it said "Screamising" now it says "Screaminig."

 

Obviously, it'll be conflict city, but Sunday is really great.

 

I'd go to Sunday. Thats my jam. Saturday has barely anything for me.... and Friday is mid.

 

What's my plan if Pup and Enter Shikari play at the same time?

I think I'll just choose to live blissfully and optimistically until then.

 

stage order/placement first draft.. not trying to guess times becuase i have no idea if (for example) the cure will be given 2 hours, 2.5 hours, 3 hours... hard to tell. there are a few bands who could fit in multiple places so im open to some moving' and shakin.

on sunday im tempted to switch caroline rose & nothing on roots with Empire state bastard & earth crisis on rebel, as i could easily see them both on a mars volta based stage.

 

Not trying to sound like a jerk but you forgot Spitalfield on Saturday.

I've been really curious about Godspeed You! Black Emperor at Riot. Like their usual set is 6 songs but they play for between 1.5hr and 2 hrs, if they play the main stage, they will have to fit their long set along to The Cure's +2hr long set.
I feel they will close a stage as their vibe and imagery will fit better at night time. Im also curious how big their crowd will be as I dont think Riot has ever had a post rock band like them.

Either way Im excited to see them and Im ready to crowdsurf during Hope Drone.

I'd recommend taking a Lyft in and transit out, if you're able. The 12 minute walk from the Pink Line to the festival was brutal last year and put a sour taste in my mouth, but the traffic out of Douglas is always rough, so I'd say it's worth it to take the train back to wherever you are. Would also try to eat in the 3-4 PM block, if you're having dinner. Food lines are always insane during 5-7. Outside of that, typical outdoor festival advice, like sunscreen/water/take breaks/watch Drain.

 

What’s the surrounding area of Douglass like? Any food spots? Did VIP so got the unlimited reentry

 

For 2 years I took the pink train there and back and walking after a full day on my feet was very hard. Next 2 years I had my wife drop me off and pick me up and it always made me feel uncomfortable (with traffic it's 25 minutes each way and she really doesn't care but I just feel bad about making her go there 3 days in a row twice). Last year I decided to park at one of those makeshift parking lots that charge like 30 dollars for the whole day and it was a breeze. Will probably do it again this year.

As far as food, it really depends on where you are staying. If I want to grab something after the fest I try and get tf out of the area as quick as I can and then find something on my way home. Last year leaving after MCR was a total nightmare.

The area is pretty calm. Many people say that they don't feel safe walking there but where in Chicago do you actually feel safe? Just don't linger too much in the area when you don't need to, and be nice to the locals.

More tips:

- If you can, PRINT YOUR SCHEDULE. This helps so much and saves your phone battery and you don't need to worry about charging. Just make sure your print the whole thing so you have alternatives if something goes wrong.

- The phone reception during the more crowded hours is pretty much non-existent. If it gets to that put your phone on airplane mode and forget about it for awhile.

- Make room in your schedule for breaks and food. You can easily end up standing 30 minutes in lines for food. Also make sure you don't eat before a set you plan on going crazy for.

- You can bring in a water bottle. DO IT. Keep it on you at all time and fill it up every time you go to the water stations. Water lines can be long during crowded hours.

- Be respectful to the other festival goers. Don't be an asshole during the shows.

- If you plan on going to aftershows, be prepared to rush there if you see a headliner. If it's a sold out aftershows you will probably arrive and have to somehow squeeze yourself in.

- If you have a block of an hour or more where you don't have any band to see, try finding a spot near a stage with music that you are cool with and REST. That park is really tiring to walk in, one trip form the water station to the food area can be very hard if you are not in top shape, especially later in the day. Don't worry about getting to see everything, it will happen when you move from stage to stage.

- The best tip I can give: If you have conflicts and you don't care about spoilers, check out the bands recent setlists. Choosing a band that plays a set with songs that you don't know/like and missing a good one instead can be heartbreaking.

 

From how it looked last year, lots of aftershows were on Saturday?

Also I plan on just doing Uber/Lyft while there.

 

Surrounding area's fine if you don't venture too far, for the most part. There's food spots but not in the immediate vicinity, unfortunately. And from what I've heard, VIP gets unlimited reentry.
