I don’t understand what Columbus has been doing the last two years tbh lol I thought they were rebuilding but then they keep making these weird moves

Guessing the CBJ blueline will look something like:
    Werenski - Severson
    Provorov - Boqvist
    Jiricek - Bean - Gudbranson - Blankenburg - Peeke

Given the youth movement at forward, I kind of expect Laine and Gaudreau to be on different lines and I think some other moves could happen with someone like Roslovic. I think Voronkov will start lower in the lineup but is probably seen as someone who can hopefully play up eventually. Unless Anaheim makes a surprising move and passes on Fantilli, I don't think the third pick will be playing right away in Columbus. Long-term, Columbus is banking on the third pick, Sillinger, and Voronkov as the top three centers, and moving Jenner back to the wing and managing his ice time. He has just been asked to do too much for too long, which leads to injuries with his style of play.

I promise you if your top pairing is Werenski-Severson, you are going to have a bad time

Not saying it will be a “great time”, but both acquisitions are improvements and having Werenski back is also an improvement. I think both players are seen as bridges to the younger prospects like Jiricek, Mateychuk, Cuelemans, Svozil, etc when they are ready.

Provorov’s contract gives them flexibility while being better than what they had before. They obviously committed to Severson, but I would also say they are probably expecting some of the prospects to push for more ice time as he gets closer to 30 and would adjust accordingly. Again, for now, he is better than what was previously here. I think the hope would be that Jiricek becomes the top right defenseman, but they can’t rush him. He’ll probably start on the third pair this year.

We can debate the merits of the overall strategy the team is taking, but when a player like Gaudreau says they want to sign with you as Columbus, I think they had to do it and figure the rest out later. It ultimately comes down to top centers though, and they have to get one in this draft. And then they need one of Sillinger or Voronkov to be the other. Lastly, I think this year is about getting better and I think with them being so bad and injured last year, it’s hard to not say that is the case. Goalie probably needs more addressing and attention, but their hands are kind of tied there for now.

If Panthers played the rest of this series like they did that 3rd period, it wouldn’t be 3-1 Vegas. Sad they decided to play like idiots for the first 2 games.

Imagine shelling out a ton of money on “elite goaltending” and watching Darcy Kuemper and Adin Hill winning the cup back to back.

Wonder what Florida could do to get a couple players like Smith & Marchessault. Seems like they would help.

In a lot of ways Vegas is such an anomaly.

6 seasons, 5 playoff appearances, no losing seasons, Cup loss, Cup win, 4 semifinal/conference final appearances, 3 division titles.

with THREE head coaching changes and two General Manager changes.

Usually teams that have 3 coaches in 6 years don’t look too good, let alone the playoff success they’ve had.
