Maybe they're out of song ideas

 

There’s an unofficial rule that you shouldn’t bump threads for bands who haven’t put out music in a long time without news so…

I saw them live tonight and they played two new songs (videos below) and said new music is coming “really really really really soon”. They also apologized for the long wait for new music.

 

They are also doing a Vanessa Carlton cover on tour (not my video):

 

These sound great, the second one especially.

 

Played like 7 new songs tonight, one of them was 80s power ballad, gave me goosebumps.

“there might be something soon wink wink” is what the bassist told me at the merch table

 

More thoughts:

The band sounded great! Eva in particular sounded the best I’ve heard her sound. They only played Percolator from Guppy, but played Capacity, Chatroom, Fighting in the Dark, and Young Enough from the second album.

Then they asked the crowd if it was ok if they played a lot of new stuff, which of course we were down for.

- first new song had a keyboard riff kinda like Don’t Stop Believing and had similar power ballad vibes. Some very cool melodies and I got goosebumps a few times.

- They also played UDK, where the main hook is “you don’t know me.” More fun and upbeat rock song.

- They played a song they wrote with Jake from Hippo Campus. A little poppier, kinda bouncy. Cool song!

- They played a song with lots of 90s vibes. The chorus kinda reminded me of “When You Know, You Know” by The Beths.

- They played “Boyfriend,” which will blow up on TikTok when it is eventually released. The main hook is all about needing a new boyfriend.

- There was one about anxiety that Eva introduced. Had fun lyrics and a catchy chorus.

- The trumpet player in Hippo Campus came out for one song and played a lil solo. Can’t remember if it was one of the songs I listed above or was a different new one.


Got to chat with everyone but Eva after the show! Bothered Sam about new music and he said “We want it to come out even more than you do!” I said I could call Barsuk and complain and he very seriously suggested that I should. So… no idea what we’re waiting on, but it sounds like an album is done, IMO.

 

Sonically and especially vocally this is a nice holdover until lp3, great album

i've listened to the live versions of you don't know so many times over the past two years and hearing the clip of it in that video just got me hyped as hell lol. could not possibly be more here for it
