As someone who has watched the first 20 mins of Moana about 50 times thanks to you young toddler...it holds up better than I thought. Honestly, The Rock is kind of the weakness of it...Moana herself and her story is the good part.

Very excited for her to move onto literally any Pixar film (other than the Up/Dug shorts). Briefly got her watching parts of Wall-E

My argument is not simply “he has good receivers”. Yes, I know that Burrow and Hurts have better weapons than Tua does overall. I’m absolutely not suggesting that any of those QBs are only successful because of their recievers, I’m specifically speaking on the situational stats that illustrate Tua faced the least man coverage and had the second most wide open targets.

I’m talking about what speed in particular does to a defense, especially when elite game breaking speed is coming from both sides of the field, and they can’t just shade a safety to one side, or bracket one guy, or do hybrid man/zone coverage to compensate. Defenses’ options are extremely limited when it comes to, how can we keep Hill and Waddle in front of us at all times? Any time they come out in man or press, any time they blitz a safety or call Cover 1 robber etc.. they are risking a touchdown, whereas that’s not automatically a huge risk against most other teams.

Having essentially two 4.2 speed guys in Waddle and Hill forces the defense to leave more space / cushion and call more zone, giving Tua more openings for safe throws. Because, to avoid the score getting out of hand - it’s more important to play the long game and force the Dolphins to be more patient, than it is to stop every single play. If you give up too many big plays you’re dead, automatically. But if you only give up a lot of smaller ones, the score stays reasonably close, and eventually most QBs make mistakes, which gives your team the chance to end a drive and take the momentum back.

Speed isn’t everything - but having that much of it is a very specific weapon that enables you to manipulate how the other team tries to stop you.

Like does Justin Herbert also have sick receivers, absolutely. But because they’re more of possession receivers, that comes with an entirely different set of benefits and disadvantages.

The benefit is his anticipation, timing, and arc doesn’t have to be as good as Tua’s because his WRs can adjust. However, his actual ball placement does have to be more precise, and he has to be more gutsy and decisive about which risks he will and won’t take when it comes to throwing the ball into coverage. Herbert has to be smarter about “well if I place the ball HERE it’s a very low chance the CB is gonna actually pick it off” whereas Tua can more often avoid throwing to anyone who’s covered in general.

and my counter-argument to that was in 2021, Tua led the NFL in tight window completion % and last year was in the top 3.

Again, its just frustrating when discussing Tua that there is always some sort of WELL ACTUALLY. Other QBs don't get dinged for their playmakers being too good or their OC or coach being too good. Herbert was a checkdown merchant last year and I don't see anyone bring that up.

The only one that is acceptable is that he cannot stay healthy enough to play a full season. I totally agree there. Otherwise, his actual play on the field last year was among the top 5 QBs in the league and that isn't really debateable IMO.

same concepts apply in Madden. @CarpetElf WILL draft a fast QB and elite speed receivers cause that’s what he does.

do you think I win by trying to shut down every single play? No, I’d give up 100 points if I tried that. He’s extremely good at throwing deep in Madden and I have to focus on taking that away first.

I play damage control most of the game because that keeps it close and allows me to actually take advantage of the few times he makes mistakes.

last year he was not in the top 3 in tight window throws. He was 25th.

He showed in 2020 and 2021 that he CAN make tight window throws. My argument has never been that he can’t. However, since the team signed an even bigger speed threat to pair with Waddle (Hill), he has shown that he is best in an offense that does not require him to do so. Last season was by far his best performance in all other categories. His strong suit is anticipation and timing, not rifling the ball into coverage.

There’s a well actually for every young quarterback. People are STILL trying to act like Lamar Jackson isn’t a franchise quarterback. People are STILL acting like Lawrence is ridiculously turnover prone even though he went 25:8 last year and only threw two picks in the second half of the season.

my intent isn’t to dismiss Tua’s talent but just to add context to what he is and isn’t good at. He’s underrated as a whole but I do think the comments about Tyreek Hill being the biggest reason his deep ball and deep accuracy improved so much are valid. Doesn’t mean he’s any less of a good quarterback, but it does mean the team did what they had to do to complement his skillset

in HERE people bring it up. I am not talking about in here.

where in the national media do people bring up that stuff? And yes, I shouldnt care about it but I do and its annoying and I know thats a me problem.

this is ONLY deep throws. Not all throws. Only throws 21+ yards or deeper.
