Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

Pretty good and then it gets pretty great in that final 3 song stretch

Easily his best since Southeastern, might end up being my favorite of his. King of Oklahoma is the one.

  3. Yeah it’s the same weird vocal effect from Be Afraid and Cumberland Gap, very over it haha. But doesn’t ruin the song for me certainly.

I think if I had to pick a weak spot it’s If You Insist, feels like one of the more forgettable tracks on the back half of Nashville Sound. But that’s a pretty great “worst” song!

  4. But I can hear your voice ring
As you snap another B string
And finish off the set with only five

And for a minute there you’re still alive…

See and I love "if you insist". Like come on:

I won’t ask you for your number
Don’t even need to know your name
I’m too tired to get excited
And I’m too old to be ashamed

    We’re running out of options
I’ll give you time to think
If you insist on being lonely
Let me leave you to your drink

Vinyl sounds great as usual with his releases, got the indie “natural” which is like a milky clear

Cast iron skillet makes me need to lie down. Good thing I’m already lying down.

Yesterday I was all about “When We Were Close” and “This Ain’t It.” Today it was “Vestavia Hills” and “Miles.” I love how guitar-centric this record is.

  16. I’m a little worried I’m not gonna get as many songs from this record as I’m hoping though. It’s a festival set but he is the headliner, 2 hrs, plus it’s an “Americana” focused fest anyway…so maybe I’m wrong

it’s all the way out in october but he announced a show in raleigh so i might make the trek. he did charlotte last year so i doubt he’ll do it again this cycle. was great though, 15 minute allman cover lol

  18. I bet he'll make it to Charlotte at some point before the next record. Seems like he hits everywhere within a few hundred miles of Nashville every other year basically

It may not be the best song on the record but King of Oklahoma is the hook i keep coming back to.

  20. Everything about that song is perfect. Verses are minor key and brooding, the chorus is huge and open and at half time compared to the verses. It’s like if you took Overseas and dropped the chorus from Flying Over Water or Goddamn Lonely Love in there

Plus I swear I hear Derry playing a glock somewhere in the mix, hat tip Federici

  22. 1. I am an idiot and temporarily confused glockenspiels and harpsichords. 2. It appears to technically be a "harpsipiano" on King of Oklahoma aka honky tonk piano 3. Roy plays the harp on the early records not Danny

  23. I'd wager a decent amount that Sadler played a more active role in writing guitar parts this time around, some of the dual riffs play off of each other so well, especially in the last two songs. Dude is insanely talented

Echoing what others are saying, this is on the short list for his best. So many songs I’m excited for when I listen. This Ain’t It rocks out so hard.
