Texas is the southernmost state outside of Florida which is why I prefer the "deep south" distinction for the region y'all are talking about, Texas is southwest region though with Houston being more deep south and Dallas being kinda just the in between of those 2 regions + the plains.

Imo the Midwest starts in Missouri / Kansas and heads upwards, culturally and environment / weather-wise. Oklahoma Arkansas and Texas are something else
