Reading @Sean Murphy ‘s accounts and trying to wrap my head around why the northeast thinks they’re any better than the south politically lmao. This is Long Island we’re talking about, they supposedly have the diversity / education that much of the poor rural south lacks, and they still got people who think like ass

literally, gerrymandering was more effective in the south. That’s basically the primary difference lol. It has nothing to do with the actual pool of voters / types of people. Same shit across America, just dressed in different disguises

 

It does have to do with the pool of voters cuz it's easier to vote in the northeast than in the south, so people on coasts (cuz west coast is definitely not excluded) think "they deserve it cuz they voted for it" not realizing that voter suppression is very real

That was my main point with boiling it down to gerrymandering. The distribution of prejudiced people is just as high in the north, the system is just rigged worse down south

 

A (not so) fun fact is that Texas voters born in Texas picked Beto over Cruz, and Cruz won due to votes from voters born in other states

 

I gotcha, it does go beyond gerrymandering but yeah the gerrymandering is also worse

 

I would bet anything that the huge swaths of conservative New Yorkers who retired in south Florida and worship Donald Trump are a big part of why DeSantis gained power
