Really it's just my own disinterest and not feeling like it but yeah a lot of that is knowing Deshaun Watson still gets to be in the league and isn't in jail

 

Maybe I’m lucky though in that the Jags best players have mostly ever done shit like get caught with drugs or get a DUI. It’s bound to happen eventually and I’m not gonna be blind about it. Just trying to enjoy that not being the case for as long as it lasts

 

The real thing is that all the players you're rooting for are probably cozy with people like Tyreek and Deshaun and THAT is one of the things that really clicked for me and just made me quit caring about it as much, knowing it's a big frat and they're all buddy buddy anyway

But also ur head coach was Urban who covered up tons of shit so that was a thing too

 

I also can admit that I do compartmentalize it and if it’s like an unimportant player then I just hate that player and keep watching. Usually that guy gets cut but I absolutely hated having Dede Westbrook. Also Urban Meyer did actually make me stop watching until they fired him.

I’m taking the most trivial of solace in the fact that Urban was essentially run out of town and that was actually the first time he was ever held in contempt for his bullshit. But that was more circumstantial than anything, he very easily could’ve been our coach for much longer, and it sucks that winning and losing is the difference between how we respond to these allegations / scandals

you guys know my thoughts on Tyreek. Long before he was a Dolphin. And I wish he wasn't on this team. But it is what it is unfortunately.

 

I think him being hired in the first place is absolutely heinous and inexcusable but that's just me

Feeling conflicted when the team you follow signs someone who’s been accused of something like DV and responding how you feel most appropriate, generally disliking those players on teams you don’t follow, and having a blanket stance that you’d like to see the NFL and law enforcement take harder stances against abusers regardless of how it affects the team you root for seems like a pretty reasonable response

 

While this conversation is uncomfortable we should have this conversation sometimes, as people who all grew up on football and have normalized a lot of shit that came with it

I hardly watch football now, I just have a hard time even finishing games if they’re mostly boring. I used to be verrrryyyyy into it but with all the bad shit that’s happened and how the nfl constantly looks the other way, it’s just pushed me away more and more.

It’s just tough knowing entertainment does have such an ability to foster bonds and connections between people. I have made multiple long term friends from this website and other places due to being into sports.

So it’s always a conflict between trying to enjoy life with integrity versus how isolating it can feel to cut out any major cultural shared experience that is run by and benefits abusive people… which is *gestures at everything*

everyone has a different threshold between the two. Being a human is tough. Being socialized creates a lot of contradictions. I don’t even watch a lot of TV or movies or even listen to that much new music cause I’m too focused on old music, so sports is the only real way I “stay current” with people other than depressing politics. It’s certainly often a better conversation starter with someone I’m not sure how to talk to than the politics or music that I’m not entirely positive is even relevant anymore lol
