it may be an intended allegory, hence the coloring, but the character's cis. trans kids are starved for representation so they make their own

That's fair, and I didn't intend my post to seem like I was against it either. Just seemed like I might've missed something.

I had no idea until 5 minutes ago as well; according to their Insta they seem like a high school-age R&B/pop boy band group

Alex from CosmicCircus has had a few misses but he has mostly been correct.

He’s been saying this for months but restated it yesterday.

So what major Spider characters/variants do we think are showing up in Beyond? Here’s my quick list:

90’s Animated - Already had multiversal adventures that I think we’re even related to The Spot if I’m remembering correctly and the series literally ends with him searching the multiverse for MJ so he would be a prime candidate for a major cameo (and maybe one line of resolution for that whole series!?!).

Ultimate Jess Drew - while I really like her character, probably would just be a background cameo.

Spidey & His Amazing Friends (both versions) - I mostly want the new one because Patrick Stump does the music and it slaps, but with Peter, Gwen, and Miles all in that show already it feels like a dark horse for multiple fun cameos.

Insomniac Miles - if Peter from this universe is there, I’ve got to think Miles will show up eventually too.

Silk - She may be the hardest to fit in, but I think also fits well with the themes because of that. There’s more stories to being a Spider than just Peter’s.

Spinstress- I know she’s too new, but I love Disney Princess Spider Woman.

I know I’m missing a ton more but this was my bored at work list.

Insomniac Miles is what I'd bet the most money on.

I want Toei Spider-Man to appear. It sucks he was seemingly cut from this film.

As for Beyond, I think some more live action actors will appear, especially if the Secret Wars info is true.

I can’t believe y’all are trying to make me think about a future Marvel Studios film in my precious Spider-Verse thread. The Marvel Cinematic Universe ended last month with Guardians 3; get with the program. :humpf:

Having the live action counterparts be in Beyond in an increased capacity would be a mistake on first glance, but I have enough faith in this team to make it not seem contrived

The Spider-Verse is a money maker and the multiverse has been established as a connective branch between Sony and Disney. It would be great to keep this as a self-contained trilogy, but we all know where it's heading. The seeds were planted and watered in Across the Spider-Verse.

Also, the name 'BEYOND the Spider-Verse' is a clear give away that we're not staying in only the Spider-Verse. We've went into it and across it, now the sights are on going beyond it.

Also what is this "Ghost Spider" horseshit. As bad as calling Miles "Kid Arachnid." Let her be Spider-Woman. She's easily the most famous one now

I was just talking about this elsewhere earlier today, lol. The problem is that Gwen popped off better than expected, at a time whe they were already gearing up for the Spider-Woman series by Dennis Hopeless (which was great, as long as you skip the little Spider-Verse arc with Greg Land and go right to Javier Rodríguez). They probably should've just called Gwen's series "Spider-Woman" or "Gwen Stacy: Spider-Woman," but instead they called it "Spider-Gwen." Her actual superhero name isn't and can't be Spider-Gwen, but that real world branding is so sharp & catchy, calling her anything else doesn't sound right.

There's a lot in general about Gwen that Marvel really fumbled the bag on. As much as I love Hickman's Secret Wars, everything getting a new #1 afterwards was a terrible, terrible decision. And, that series also got saddled with two crossovers, "Spider-Women" and the Miles one. Plus, the original trades call the arc before Secret Wars "volume 0" instead of "volume 1." They could've had a clean ongoing for young new readers like the Bendis/Bagley Ultimate Spider-Man, but it's a mess instead. Doesn't help that, when they gave her another series after (sex pest) Jason Latour was done, they called it "Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider" for 10 issues, then immediately went back to #1 for another 10-issue run simply called "Ghost Spider." (Also doesn't help that her last couple minis have been about her surrounded by alternative Gwens, 'cause they don't know what else to do with her.)

Oh well. I adore going to my local shop, buying floppies, and hanging out way too long... but that's a niche hobbyist market anymore that's not really for kids. Marvel's real success with kids is collaborating on graphic novels with Scholastic. Give Gwen one of those and they'll really be cooking.

Oh wait, forgot to add that at the end of (the creep) Jason Layout’s Spider-Gwen, Gwen had lost her powers and gotten them replaced by a costume made out of symbiote goop that’s actually a lot of tiny spiders.

Gotta say, I think my favorite moment beyond seeing how excited my daughter was to watch Gwen start swinging around in the beginning of the movie, was actually looking over at my wife and seeing this massive smile on her face when Jessica Drew showed up. When I asked her about it later, she said “She was pregnant!”

She hadn’t really seen much of the promotional material so she didn’t know that part and it really felt so special how much it meant to her to see a pregnant superhero.

  21. First I'm hearing of Latour, gross. Spider-Gwen was one of the first comics I picked up when I was still borrowing from the library and not building my collection.

  24. I absolutely loved this. I've seen the criticisms of this feeling like an incomplete movie, but that didn't bother me at all. I went into it knowing it was a part 1, and the arcs in this felt satisfying, especially Gwen's. Feels like Dune discourse all over again ha.

The soundtrack, action set pieces, and humor were all great. The animation is next-level stuff. A visual buffet of colors that aren't just eye candy but also serve the emotional beats. The live action crossover bits felt disjointed from the movie, but they're minor and still fun. The lego sequence, on the other hand, was great.

I went in not knowing it was a part 1 and still completely love it, I cannot wait for 2!
