I'd also occasionally bring my PS2 and Guitar Hero to school and we'd all play during band class

Wanna chime in and say I agree teaching old books & authors is not a great way to get kids engaged with reading. But I’m sure they do it for reading comprehension more so than exposure to art, which makes sense you’d have high school students try to translate outdated English and overwrought turns of phrase

I think the main problem is we still have the archaic system of preparing for SATs and state tests, and that entire curriculum sucks the fun out of learning for kids who might otherwise be somewhat interested in school

I don’t know a single teacher that doesn’t think SAT and other standardized test prep is damaging to students’ self esteem and willingness to engage with the content, and takes away from more meaningful stuff they could be learning. Standardized tests make sense for math because it’s fully objective and there is one answer, but I think it’s important to let kids come up with their own answers for arts and humanities

Elementary school was a ton of Pokemon and video games for me. Got into yugioh and beyblades and anime in middle school, started playing Halo 2 with friends. High school was anime and Halo 3 and card games and music. I was a dork. Still am

on my company's internal employee website portal thing an employee commented "Jesus is the only way!!! He loves you, and cares for you deeply. Repent and turn from your sins! God is Gracious and loving!! God bless!" under a post about Pride resources throughout the country. Very cool and smart thing to do

no idea why there's comment sections on there anyway

Was never angrier than what the college I was applying to told me they weren't even going to look at my ACT and SAT scores. So. Angry.

So weird that Jacksonville has a much bigger music scene than Tallahassee yet much better acts come from Tallahassee lol

Pool Kids and Ethel Cain are two of my favorite recent acts

That's so cool - Preacher's Daughter is such an experience. American Teenager was easily and unquestioned my favorite song from last year, but the much different rest of the album is still fantastic. Not something I'd ever recommend to literally any of my friends, but those who want it ... they get it.

I didn't listen to it until February of this year so it wasn't on my AOTY list but it's EASILY my favorite of last year.
