Still my favorite release this year

 

If they have the vinyl at the show tomorrow, I'm planning on picking it up. I wanted to listen to the whole thing before I picked it up just to confirm it'd be a good purchase, and I was right.

HAPPY THRASH METAL THVRSDAY FRIDAY

I'm sorry I missed last week and I'm equally sorry I missed yesterday. Haven't been keeping up as much (we're in Seattle for a memorial service and travelling with a 16 month old is uh, difficult).

Nevertheless I bring you some new stuff whether you like it or not.

First up is a new album from Canadian thrashers Terrifier. Came out 3 days ago on Empire Records, FFO Havok. If you only listen to one thing in this post, this should be it:

Next is a new EP from Brazilian thrashers The Troops of Doom. It's a combination of their two previous EPs with a few new songs. They're named after a Sepultura song, so that's your closest comparison. Link to the two new songs:

Lastly we have the new album from Metal Church. I'll admit it's not my favorite - sounds like a really old thrash band trying to stay relevant - but they've earned the respect of being posted here at least. Just came out today:

If you're a fan of black metal/avant garde metal/death, do not miss that Kostnatění album, it is a top 10 album of the year

 

Fugitive played a new song called Blast Furnace that is maybe their best song yet. Killer thrash-y riff that still has my neck hurting.

 

Actually listening to the Blood Incantation ambient synth record from last year for the first time, holy shit this thing is awesome

BI’s Amoba What’s In My Bag? episode highlights a lot of stuff I’d say influenced that album. It also turned me on to Tears For Fears’ Seeds of Love album, which objectively slaps.

 

Looks like Caligula’s Horse are announcing new stuff Thursday. Timing seems right for new music. Probably my most anticipated of the year.

 

Even as far as the limited amount of ambient/more background type music I'm into, I gotta say that I found the Blood Incantation ambient album pretty disappointing. I knew what it was going into it so my expectations were rightly tempered compared to their death metal material, but I still found myself wanting to turn it off to listen to other stuff.
