My current girlfriend’s group of friends is like that lol. They used to go to festivals together. Half of them play an instrument and they do bring them to backyard cookouts or whatever

 

A nice rowhome with an area for plants on the other hand would be ideal

I feel like maybe y’all aren’t understanding the difference here hahaha cause every single person except Dustin has made it sound like I just bust out a guitar in the middle of everyone doing something together and play loudly over people talking

and I keep explaining that’s not how it is

A gathering of musicians who jam together isn't isn't same as one guy randomly busting out a guitar

It actually sucks when you walk into an acoustic jam and they ask you to sing, heck no brother

 

The stigma about “guitar guy”, I’ve heard it a million times before, usually by people who don’t really care that much about music though.

But It’s so bewildering to me coming from a group of people who literally have posted on a website centered around being passionate about guitar music for 15 years lol

like idk what to tell y’all other than most the people I know IRL who love music, appreciate it when friends bring instruments to a social gathering, even if it ends up being only one or two of them and even if they’re just idly and quietly playing stuff for 10 minutes here and there rather than taking any requests

 

It’s not all musicians though. Usually it’s a couple and the rest of the people there have no problem socializing at the same time and appreciating it as background. Let alone the times when they request songs because it’s nice to hear live music

one musician at the party being asked to play? Sure. One musician at a whole beach day taking 15 minutes to sit off to the side and noodle around to take a break from social activity? Yeah.

randomly “busting out a guitar” in a “it’s time to look at me and give me attention” sort of way is behavior I haven’t seen since high school. Usually musicians have more couth than that, which is why it feels hostile and unnecessary when it’s suggested that we all act like that lol
