I just feel like, at some point you’re gonna wise up, and realize you have to give Trevor Lawrence some serious weapons to actually beat Mahomes straight up without hoping for a miracle. And fuck, we just GOT a miracle - he hurt his ankle and we could’ve taken a commanding lead while Chad Henne was in - we still lost. Obviously we need to take it to another level.

Ridley / Engram / Kirk is good, but I still don’t think we’re scaring anybody without another Ridley-level weapon (and that’s IF Ridley even returns to his old form). Remember that those Super Bowl Falcons had Ridley AND Julio.

At some point you gotta realize we lost to the Patriots in ALL of our other playoff appearances since 2000 because we didn’t have the offense to keep up with Tom Brady and we don’t wanna repeat the same mistake with the next generational QB in the AFC.

why not just make that decision now before Trevor’s next contract limits our options? This IS the window. We got way closer than we expected last year, we’ve got continuity in the coaching and in every position group on the core roster, we just drafted depth at all shallow position groups, our QB is rapidly ascending but still cheap af for two years…

literally the last piece we need, to overcome a tougher schedule and more available game tape on us, is a second dominant weapon to stop opponents from scheming one guy out. To throw our 2023 opponents off-balance because Hopkins (or equivalent) would change what they initially thought about our offense and how to defend it. If I was GM, I’m not thinking about “maybe we’ll get hot and win a bowl in the next 10 years”, I’m thinking win one now while we still have momentum out of the gate.. and then we have the rest of Trevor’s career to BUILD on that.

 

On top of that, we might need to block the Chiefs or the Bills from becoming even more unstoppable by signing Hopkins *themselves*

Yeah I’m scared of Mahomes & the Chiefs and I’m trying to give our less special but still special QB so many weapons that they gotta be scared of US

anyway, yeah I think Trevor can be that good with this roster. That was Ryan’s best year but still ultimately he lost to that juggernaut team in the Super Bowl with a worse offense. So it kinda fits my point that if you don’t have the best QB, you kinda have to give them MORE to challenge their claim to the AFC title. The Bills and Bengals have certainly gotten with the program with the weapons they’ve surrounded Allen and Burrow with.

I hope Patrick has a long career and wins multiple superbowls and solidifies himself as a top 3 QB of all time. I am also hoping Trevor Lawrence is one of the few quarterbacks who can sometimes beat him in a big game and manages to steal some of the other superbowls in Patrick’s down years.

I feel this especially when our division is trash.

Like yeah, maybe a few years in CJ Stroud and Demeco Ryans’ defense will be a threat, or maybe Anthony Richardson will become the Goliath that draft media thinks he is. And we might need to focus on them first when that time comes.

Right now, though, if our primary team building strategy isn’t “beat Patrick Mahomes and give Trevor Lawrence whatever support he needs to do so” then what are we doin here
