I honestly think the Mahomes / Brady argument is much more like the LeBron / Jordan argument.

LeBron is clearly the most gifted basketball player, same way Mahomes is at QB, and people who pay attention to statistics and skillsets are going to value the guy who had the more “complete” game and who was more precocious at a young age. Barring any career ending injuries I do think Mahomes is going to be the LeBron of football.

However, Jordan, like Brady, was the greatest WINNER and if people wanna debate from that lens that’s totally valid as well.

I agree — their build is very much a “Jordan Love is passable or we’re dreadful” build. I think it’s more likely than not that he’s passable (or at the very least that he doesn’t out-suck the Colt McCoy/Jeff Driskel combo), but they have a quite low floor if they were to decide to pull the rug from under something like a 1-4 start or Love got hurt or something because there’s no fallback and that’s probably by design

 

And it’s not like Jordan didn’t have a COMPLETE skillset at SG, it’s not like Tom Brady didn’t do everything you would ever ask a QB to do. I’m not saying their skillsets lacked anything at all.

Jordan was great in the paint, in midrange and as a defender, Brady had arguably the best pocket presence of all time and can throw the ball in every situation and every angle/arc etc

but Mahomes and LeBron do that and THEN also added unique versatility on top of that to the point you can’t expect any other player at that position to do it. You wouldn’t ask Jordan to play power forward. You wouldn’t ask Brady to do spin move passes and jump passes and no look passes.

Brady is the greatest winner of all time and Mahomes may never lay claim to that even if he is capable of being an even more impressive quarterback. Both arguments can coexist!

Lol listen. I love Mahomes. I think he’s the only guy who has even a shot of unseating Brady for a long time. But to argue he’s QB1 after 6 seasons is, frankly, absurd, laughable, and a misrepresentation of how much I know you actually know this game lol
