  1. In addition to what other folks have said:
Forest Management & Celer - Landmarks (either of their individual work is also great, Celer had A LOT of output before calling it quits on that project)
Julianna Barwick - really anything but start with The Magic Place, Nepenthe, or Healing is a Miracle
Blessed are the Hearts that Bend - The Limitless Sweet Love of Precious Suffering (newer artist but this is that good good drone)
    Eluvium - Copia
William Basinski - The Disintegration Loops (any of em) and Melancholia
Emily A. Sprague - Water Memory / Mount Vision
    Ana Roxanne - Because of a Flower / ~~~

    there's more but yeah

i think there's about 6 hours worth of music so it's definitely a commitment, haha. i had to order all 6 parts on vinyl but part 5 was sold out so i have to wait to find it before i can enjoy the whole experience. such beautiful music so i hope you enjoy!

The Caretaker is not a relaxing ambient experience for me haha. EATEOT is incredible, don’t get me wrong, but that project conceptually—and, as it approaches the album’s end, musically—stresses me the fk out, in a very existential way.

i really enjoy making ambient music and it's probably the only genre i'm good at but i cannot for the life of me even tell you another ambient artist except him and i only found him late last year. i love the concept because i view the mind as thoughts that just collapse within themselves anyway so EATEOT just seems exciting and almost like the perfect soundtrack to our lives.

  5. Oh yeah, been loving The Disintegration Loops and a handful of single Basinski and Aphex Twin tracks as well

Wuuuut you really should check out more of this genre!

I agree it’s a super cool concept and beautifully-done. Just so haunting.

IMO it’s great that there are ambient artists not limiting themselves to one kind of emotional experience. There are many artists in this genre going for something other than “calming” and I love that.

of course, i'm just one of those people that like to see what i can do without influence from the outside. i like to use frequencies as the vocals so every time you listen you hear something different or make up your own interpretation of it or if you listen with headphones and take them off it sounds like it's playing in reverse. it's entertaining to create something you have no reference of and make it your own and no one can take that from you.

there's a new Sigur Ros album out today that's apparently mostly ambient. haven't gotten to it yet but so damn hyped to check it out. other than that, fuck yeah some great releases today.

new Gigi Masin / Greg Foat

new The Orb / Chocolate Hills

new (older unreleased) The Fun Years

Had the Gigi Mason/Greg Foat on in the car earlier. I got so lost in the melancholy haze of the opener, and the following jazzy track cruelly stomped on it. Now I know it's there, I'll be ready, but it was a first listen vibe killer.

Shit I disagree hard. Listening now and the jazzy tracks are the best on here. Really loving this album especially with the rain falling

  18. Listening to Feel Good Lost by Broken Social Scene for the first time and I'd reckon this counts as ambient to some extent

Ha I liked the succeeding tracks; it was more the novelty of the first listen, when you can get swept away with one emotion, and brought to a halt by the unexpected introduction of another. I doubt it will jar as much on future listens.

The new dné album came out today. It's the sound of feather-light contentment, produced by just over twenty minutes of vintage synth warmth, clicky organic beats, interspersed vocals, and the ticking, humming serenity of life, and it's my favourite album released so far this year in any genre. It's so perfectly slight.

Chuck Johnson's new score for the HBO film Burden of Proof is so good. He gets better with every release.

The new Less Bells record is stunning. I loved her first one but wasn't as big of a fan of the follow-up so I'm glad to see her back into my listening pattern.
