I disagree. If im driving to and from work I want something I know I like because that's some me time. Also people are bad at recommending music the one or two songs that encapsulates a band to get you interested. And that's what I need because I don't have the time to listen to an album front to back anymore.

 

yeah I’ve seen some users logs of every album they’ve listened to month to month and it makes me wonder what their lives are like lol

im not a huge Thrice fan or anything (I like them fine but am not speaking as like a Stan), but they might be one of the best sounding bands live that I’ve ever seen. There’s something about their mix that is somehow super dense but you can also hear every part and it’s awesome

 

Granted, I was standing front and center and forgot my ear plugs, but it was so loud and Will’s vocals got lost in the mix at times. Maybe the sound guy just sucked, but idk. Just a noticeably bad sound experience. It’s not like that’s the first time I ever stood front and center without my ear plugs and I’ve had fine experiences at those shows

 

It’s all I do, I wish someone paid me for it lol

 

What about the time on Sundays that you're normally watching the Steelers and drinking an IPA during NFL season? Could you steal a couple hours on Sundays for one new album or two?

 

Yeah they were good af live. Even their buttier rock songs were dope

 

That's what I try to do, "replace" sports time with something else when that sport's not in season. The hours are there in my schedule.

 

They’re one of my all-time favorite bands, a stan if you will. One of my favorite live bands too. Just a very tight and professional group.

I've only seen them a long time ago but they put on a HELL of a show for The Alchemy Index when I did

Although PUP's recent records are light hearted, like if Bomb The Music Industry was slightly less abrasive and erratic, their live show was heavy as FUCK and they sounded more like a Philly hardcore punk band (Mannequin Pussy, Title Fight, etc) live

I LOVED that. Drums just going IN the whole time, lead guitar getting thick and wild and noisy etc

 

I definitely get what spiffa is saying. I consciously think about what album or song(s) I would recommend to someone to check out. Free time is not as easy to come by anymore. Even for me, as my interests have expanded, I don’t have as much time for music anymore and there is absolutely a comfort is putting the familiar.

I’m not quite as good about it as I was maybe 5 years ago, but sitting at my laptop at work is where I do like 95% of my new music listening which makes it p easy to do

I also wanna mention that 9:30 Club in DC continues to actively and noticeably get better and better, and I already loved it back in 2010-2015 when I lived here originally. What an awesome music venue
