Fair but then the ire should be directed at Live Nation. Net/net, whenever you don't have barriers put in place to protect rescalping and platinum prices, it's ultimately the artist's decision. LN/Ticketmaster may offer incentives as to why the artist should do that (probably impacts their guarantee) but as The Cure just demonstrated, if enough artists/bands cared they would implement these policies. Yet they like to hide behind the "big evil corporations" when their pockets are being lined as well by these shenanigans.

I definitely agree to some extent. Large artists are definitely complicit. Partly due to money and also due to the control that LN has on the industry. Even if they don’t support their practices, most bands probably seem them as a necessary evil and wouldn’t say shit in fear of being shut out from the concert industry.

Suicideboys GA tickets being $200 before fees is hilarious

Yeah, to be fair, it's only on the arena/stadium/amphitheater level where we're dealing with this. People playing clubs and theaters there isn't AS much of this issue.

Just to add to the ways Ticketmaster sucks shit, I regrettably had to sell my ticket for The Cure because I got the flu, and of course had to do it through Ticketmaster. In order to get paid, they wanted my SSN and banking details (which I begrudgingly provided) even though I've been buying tickets from them for decades and they have my debit card info (which I used to purchase the ticket originally) so I don't see why they can't just pay me that way. Now (a week after the show) I still haven't been paid... they want me to verify TWO small test deposits over the next 5 business days, and THEN I should get paid. Don't remember having to jump through this many hoops to give them my money.

    Insane, right?!

Apparently it's not just TM. Seat Geek does it too because of some new government regulation. BUT I've sold on StubHub tons, even as recently as 2 weeks ago, and I've never given them my SSN

Maybe I gave it to StubHub a while back and just dont remember. That being said this the first time I've ever sold tickets through TM and the entire sale was for $41

Lmao, I once tried to do it through TM and when I saw what they all needed and how long it took, I just said fuck it

I sold Cavs tickets on Seat Geek in April and I definitely did not have to put in my SSN. I did have to provide banking info, but that was so they could transfer money to my bank.

Tax rules changed a year ago as part of a crackdown on unreported income from online sales. If you sell over $600 the site is supposed to generate a 1099.

2 small deposits is pretty much what any sort of bank direct deposit situation requires. Paypal and the like do the same.

I’m not sure why everyone is such an uproar about the SSN on Ticketmaster when you sell your tickets. Every selling platform that’s worth a damn does: eBay, Depop, Mercari, Ticketmaster, PayPal (not a selling platform but you know what I mean), SeatGeek. It’s for tax purposes - just like when you start a new job. It’s not a big deal. Everyone has to be 1099’d.

The thing to be in an uproar about is the time it takes for the money to be in your account.

I think both AXS and TM hold on to your money until AFTER the event, allowing them to earn interest.
