    The rivalry is back on

My positive Texans post is that their best case scenario reminds me of this year’s Seattle Kraken — they have approximately 0 stars, but their 40-53 spots on their roster might be the best in the league. If CJ Stroud takes the Matty Beniers role of being ROTY/up-and-coming stud and they don’t miss a beat when someone goes down because they have someone comparably good to take their place or can play matchups well with different personnel because they don’t have to worry about keeping “the starters” on the field at all times, etc, they can be real sneaky good

I expect us to repeat playoff berth, even if it’s as wild cards and not div winners. But I don’t think we did enough with our team’s starting cast to beat the Chiefs. We’re not gonna get Pat with a bum ankle next time. And for that matter we still ain’t beating the Eagles either.

Bengals and Bills are also clearly better than us but we are capable of surprising them both if we’re “on”. (Hilariously, we beat Allen and almost beat Burrow in Trevor’s 3-14 awful rookie year under Meyer??? Those were two of our best 3 games lol). Ravens and Chargers SHOULD be better than us but we looked pretty evenly matched last year.

I’d grade our roster about as good as the Steelers - just above middle of the pack, right on the playoff cusp, on paper. Our floor is getting hella injured and not having enough talent left to make the playoffs. But if our QB and coach can continue to steal some games we thought we were gonna lose like they did last year, that obviously helps elevate us to our ceiling of being a borderline top 8 team who has an outside chance of being underdog contenders.

The truth is probably somewhere in the middle… injuries, and opponents adjusting to our new playbook from watching tape, are counter-forces. So if we can have a normal amount of injuries and a tough schedule (compared to very few injuries and easier schedule last year) but still earn a playoff win, that’s good enough in my book. This off-season was more about sustainability and raising our floor than making aggressive splashes to raise our ceiling - which includes making cap space for Trevor and for Josh Allen - and I’m okay with that if it actually works.

If the Jags don't win the AFC South, something has gone terribly wrong with their season
