These posts back to back conflict.
If we’re ignoring Meyer then I’m DEFINITELY ignoring Lynn
Herbert still has more talent around him by a solid margin and has had more cracks at playoff games
If Herbert is as good as everyone talked him up to be, Lynn would not keep him down

Does Herbert really have "more cracks at playoff games" when he plays in the same division as the Chiefs?

Dude has been in one playoff game. C'mon.

Absolutely stunning that good QB gets better when paired with an offensive-minded HC who actually has a clue what's going on, but Herbert is not given the same pass when his HC played and watched Mike Williams get hurt in a meaningless week 18, thus causing him to be unavailable for the playoffs, and Lombardi has notably called small-ball, bad offenses.

I just don’t think it’s as simple as “he watched his HC shit the bed”

He only needed one big play in the second half to put us away. He couldn’t come up with one the whole time we were scoring 28 unanswered points

Also, re: Chiefs, I never said the Chargers should be winning that division but they should be wild card front runners every year

It's wild how Herbert looked good for one half before doing nothing the next half, whereas Lawrence looked like dogshit for one half before remembering how to play football in the next half. I just don't understand why you are always so willing to forget about Lawrence putting his team in such an awful situation in the first place, but you're always so willing to hold that specific game over Herbert's head as if Herbert is also able to play defense.

Yeah, it's a tough look for Herbert to not help the offense put up a single point in the second half. You know who it's also a tough look for? Joe Lombardi, the guy who calls the offense. You know who it's also a tough look for? The entire defense. You know who it's also a tough look for? Brandon Staley, the head coach who calls the defense. Yet, for some reason, Herbert is the only one I regularly see getting the blame for the game. Curious.

Also, I think it's a little optimistic to say the Chargers should be wild card front runners every year when they play in the AFC. The Chargers would need a miracle to win their own division, whereas teams form other divisions in the AFC don't have nearly as strong opposition in front of them at the top of their own divisions, so the Chargers are out here having to compete against so many other teams that are also good enough to be wild card teams any given year. There are eight teams from the AFC that could legitimately find themselves in the playoffs this year and that's not even considering if other teams in the conference can make the leap. We've all watched football long enough to know that a few injuries can derail a season. Kind of like how the Chargers suffered injuries to significant players last season. Hell, the AFC was weaker back in 2021 than it is now and the Chargers STILL couldn't get into the playoffs despite how good they were because Staley lost them the game against the Raiders at the end of the season!

Would it be easier if I reminded you that he fumbled the ball four times in the rain against the Eagles as if he had hands smaller than Pickett's in addition to throwing a dumb pick?

Herbert could have put the game out of reach regardless what was up with his defense though. Yeah it was a failure by the defense and a failure by the coaching as well but at the end of the day that didn’t have to matter if Herbert “willed” his team to one touchdown in the second half. I mean we’ve seen him improvise-convert a lot of fourth downs in a game before, where was that?

Ultimately making plays at the right time matters more than making plays in the beginning / middle of the game, all sports are like that. I absolutely do judge Herbert more harshly for starting out great but running out of steam when the game was so close to being unwinnable for us, than I judge Trevor for starting awful but having the resilience to turn his worst game of all time into one of the best second half performances all year. Cause that’s really the difference, do you elevate yourself under pressure or do you freeze? Herb can have better regular season numbers all he wants but that last sentence is what it comes down to in the third and fourth quarter of playoffs / late season playoff-deciding games.

Yeah it’s all their fault. But. Herbert is the only one of the 3 who keeps getting excuses and keeps getting unconditionally praised as if he’s already made a few playoff runs and last year was some fluke, rather than a pattern of the Chargers as a whole failing when it counts (which, yes, the QB everyone thinks is borderline elite shares some culpability for that if he’s perceived to be that good)

I think injuries and coaching are valid counter arguments to bring up but I still find myself concerned that Herbert has like a top 7-8 roster but struggles to lead them to be a top 14 team. The AFC is indeed very good - and the Chargers roster on paper SHOULD be one of the biggest reasons why it’s such a gauntlet. Beginning of this year we talked about “what if the whole AFC wildcard was filled up by the AFC West”

You pointed out Mike Williams going down, for example, but having a WR2 that good is kind of a luxury that some competitive QBs don’t have at all to begin with.
