Barry looking up all the terrible things that revered people throughout history have done is sort of sad that it's his way of making himself feel better about all the bad things he's done in his life

Maybe it’s because I watched it on my iPad in a freezing cold tent where I forgot to pack almost anything but alcohol, but that felt exceptionally bleak. Like, I am bummed.

I’m still not entirely sold on the timeskip, especially with how much was going on in present day. Curious to see where this goes

Wouldn’t be surprised if this ends with Barry going back to prison.

Also, 100% chance his son ends up a killer.

Not a fan of the direction this has gone in but hope they can turn it around.

I feel the exact opposite. It's brilliant and I am here for whatever Bill Hader is doing.

I'm torn on the time jump.

Ultimately, I place my trust in Hader, but time jumps to me always feel kind of like a cheap twist - in any show. Especially when it's so immediately sudden.

Also, are we supposed to believe that Barry obviously went to great lengths to carve out this new life for his family in hiding that it wouldn't have crossed his mind over the past 8 years to kill anyone who could potentially expose him? Like, I would have figured he would have 'taken care' of Gene/Hank/Fuches before setting out this new life for himself. Which is why the time jump is kind of a bummer, we don't know what happened with them (with the exception of Gene now appearing out of the blue from hiding). But you would think that he would have left no stone unturned to make sure he took care of all his business before going into this new life.

No one knew where Gene was for eight years. Fuches is inside the prison he just escaped from. Hank is probably an LA crime lord right now and I can't wait for that reveal.

It's fair to say that Barry didn't have time to go looking. He went straight to Sally and they ran.

per his latest recap with Sean Fennessey we're going to be catching up with other characters on next week's episode

    we'll see how it goes

A few behind so avoiding reading comments, but the first 2 episodes were good. Logical but somewhat unexpected story progression, and I like what Bill Hader is doing behind the camera. Some cool unique takes and edits and cuts.

I didn’t hate the episode but the setup of this time jump leaves so many questions unanswered and created so many new ones too close to the end of the show. Assuming being fearful of the attention it might bring to Barry/Sally in hiding, I don’t see how logically going to kill Gene after 8 years of hiding makes any sense for his character. What more could Gene tell them that isn’t already public news? Highly unlikely anyone living near them pays attention to crime docs or is witty enough to put it together (ex: the people Sally works with on a daily basis)

How did they get there/have a kid without being caught? How did they make it out of LA? Why is Barry preaching religion suddenly? Where are they going with Sally’s character? She didn’t make it in Hollywood and got bad press so the only place she felt she could turn to was Barry? And now we’re just watching her unravel in her mundane existence tied to him? Is she assumed dead by her friends and family? Hank just fell in line with his cohorts after his love was brutally murdered in front of him and we’ll be left with a villain Hank in the end?

I know no show is perfect but man this show was batting 100. I’m remaining hopeful and excited but I got to the end of this week’s episode scratching my head and hoping it was still a vision Barry was gonna pop out of. Once they showed Gene I felt deflated.

Don't disagree with all of your post but these two points
    1) she killed a guy and was still a generally normal person otherwise - I think that's really all the explanation needed for her state of mind

    2) I feel pretty confident we'll find out what's up with Hank next episode

I think the decision to leave with Barry has more to do with feeling safe with him after she killed the biker. She still clearly has ptsd from that moment because we see him appear as a hallucination on the bus. She is in a darker place with decaying mental health and Barry is the only one that she thinks will accept her after what she did.

And as for being drawn out by Gene, I think they are trying to play this film up as being a pretty big release which will get the kind of attention that the story hasn’t been able to scratch yet.

And Barry is the only confirmed actual killer she knows.

He's the only person she can be around and think "I'm not the worst person here"

I liked reading this about Bill Hader. Kinda makes you wonder how good of a reputation he'll have for being not only a good director, but an also kind and considerate one further on in his career. I'm so excited for whatever he does next.

I think Bill coming up in his career behind the scenes also plays into it. It’s like the former food service staff who always tip the waiting staff extra because they’ve been there and they know how much it can suck not getting the credit and respect they deserve. A rarity for sure in show business.
