Take arms, it'll all blow over Prestigious

Wow, I fucking loved this. Most euphoria I've felt from a MCU movie since Endgame, but I'd say its better than that, and might be the most earnest comic-book movie since Spider-Man 2?

Also joining in the praise that I really, really liked this. Was pretty apprehensive going in because the Breakfast All Day critics didn’t like it. But I thought it was pretty fantastic throughout. The ending got pretty self indulgent, to the point Gunn couldn’t help himself and made Groot say another phrase, which makes no sense. But whatever.

This is probably the most R-rated PG-13 Marvel movie. I would not take any of my nephews to it simply because I think them watching animals get hurt would be too much. But for everyone elae, a good time.

I had a lot of fun with this. There were a couple times I was worried it was going off the rails, but it reeled itself back in at the last second.

I took the Groot thing as us hearing what the characters hear from him. Still wasn't a huge fan of that moment but I feel like he's probably still actually saying "I am Groot".

This is pretty much my exact thoughts. Essentially making the audience part of that family. Not a huge fan of the decision, but I get why Gunn did it.

    gooooooood lord this movie

Easily the best thing since Endgame and goes to show what these movies can be when they're not dedicating the entire narrative building towards a larger universe. So many character moments that I've been going over in my head since seeing it last night.

If I had any complaints it would be that I definitely felt that length a bit in the last hour but at the same time I'm not really sure what I would cut. Adam also took a backseat but all things considered I think that was the right way to handle him and let the Guardians really have their time in this.

Hallway scene was top tier and felt like something straight out of the Guardians game from a few years ago.

Also thank GOD those stupid goats didn't make it into this movie after the disaster that was the last Thor movie.

Why would Thor’s goats be with the Guardians?

I guess I misremembered. Movie was so bad so I'm a little fuzzy on how they were handled.

    Rocket Teefs Floor go now.

  13. If this was the idea now I'm heartened by it but tbh he might as well have looked at the camera to have it really land.

I’m still feeling all sorts of ways from this movie last night. Love that it’s very different from the first two, yet still a delightful closer. And this may have some of the best set/production design of any Marvel film? The character designs and worlds were constantly surprising and fun, and I loved how real the two HE guards looked at some points. Awesomely garish!

but the heart and soul of this film is the core message that the guardians as symbols are fighters for the outcasts and orphans. This time though they learn their not just family with each other, but have a bond and love for all those who are not deemed worthy by their creators. That as long as you fight for each other, and others who are still subject to that abuse, you can find Family.

also, small things like having Quills face busted and morphed at the end went a long way in making this feel like Gunns film, moreso than the first two, similar to Raimi’s choices in MoM.

Peter being an alcoholic at the beginning was kind of glossed over / not addressed later, kinda weird.

I’m still kind of baffled at how Gunn manages to shove his brother and wife into everything.

The “Iron Man 2” pivot, where someone has a drinking problem for one scene and it never happens again.

I mean, yes. It was never directly addressed. But the cause of it was his issue with Gamora and holding on to the past with her to avoid his childhood trauma. We see him process and work through that throughout the film. At the end he literally says he is done running from his trauma. He lets alt Gamora go and returns to earth. The drinking to cope is over.

I don’t see it as an issue as the drinking was a symptom of his internal struggle.

Seeing this again tonight in a nearly sold-out theater. Excited to see how a crowd reacts. My theater yesterday afternoon was mostly empty.

yeah, plus he did mention later in the film how he regretted being drunk when Adam showed up, I didn't really need it discussed much further.
