It's not out of the spectrum of possibility. Idk, IARB just sounds so motivated and driven and resolute, and that contrasts hard with the hollow insecurity and tired-veteran-of-the-trade satire of Ugly Organ. Max is still trying to change the world with his talent on IARB while Tim at that point is done convincing each new wave of naive teenagers that he's bigger than he is. I can't compute them as being similar because in my view you use a guitar far differently to express those emotions.

The Room's Too Cold is an absolute jam the whole time. Not enough people really give them credit for how many things outside of typical pop punk they did. I love Jeff Kummer's drumming for example - most pop punk drummers are looking for any opportunity to fill space whether with overbearing cymbals or just slamming the snare with constant fills. Jeff on TRTC meanwhile, his drums are so tasteful about leaving space for the song's atmosphere to breathe, and also more than half the record is in 3-4 waltz or 6-8 ballad timing rather than standard 4-4

Also a very dynamic record. Plenty of the softest soft to contrast with the climaxes, so when Ace hits his upper register it is fucking ON and you hear the band go crazy. Most pop punk at the time was always a brisk tempo, high volume. TEN slowed it down and mellowed it out with some NICE clean grooves and that makes the hard hitting moments that much more impactful.

Yes! Jeffs a stellar drummer. TRTC is my favorite and is the definition of a true classic. It's dark, inventive, and incredibly well constructed/produced.

I have never liked a single TEN song I've listened to and the self titled is the only Say Anything album I can listen to.

Could never get into say anything. I remember hearing soooooo much hype on ap so when I listened to them I was all excited like let's do it, and then I heard it and was like ????? I think I even double checked to make sure I had the right band. Oh well. Not the first or the last band I'll go wtf to when I finally listen after the hype on here lol

I can definitely follow it more than TBP, and way more than anything Coheed - granted, I've also never tried to understand the Coheed story

I did with the first two when it was all vague and mysterious. Once they hit Good Appollo and started taking the plot super seriously I started just loving them for the music

It's scene af but I've really liked silverstein's concept albums, particularly Shipwreck in the Sand. As mentioned, BTBAM and TEN put in good work as well. But man I gotta get back into metal, I've mostly been listening to indie metal and whatever I had listened to growing up rather than keeping up with some of these groups. But getting into concept albums now just isn't possible it seems, like I don't have time/energy to listen to music and analyze it in a literary fashion which is too bad.
