I don’t know who any of those people are but it feels weird to be speculating like that. Which is why it’s bad for max to include anything related to it in lyrics!

 

They’re definitely not close anymore. Max’s solo album last year had a song that was basically just Max and Lloyd Vines doing a Chris Conley dis track. It was pretty brutal, from what I recall.

 

Do you remember what track this was? I only listened to that album once so I don't totally remember it.

 

The last one. “Simple Sweet.”

I remember my friends and I were dissecting the lyrics a lot when we first heard it.

Song sounds great minus that fucking last part, lyrics are a hot mess and everything surrounding Max has completely sapped my interest in this band

This song might actually be the thing that gets me to cover up my Say Anything tattoo. I've been holding out because the artist who did it passed and I really loved him a ton, so I don't want to cover any of his work. But this shit is just unsettling at this point. Once I'm not broke imma have to start looking for ideas. haha

I don't know anything about the situation but uhhhhh, that's a fucking weird outro to what was quite a decent song.

 

Beyond just being really weird and creepy, Billy Zane doesn’t even die in Titanic so I’m not sure what that line means. I must not be in Max’s intellectual level.

 

IIRC, old Rose mentions that Zane’s character shot himself after Black Tuesday.

Still odd to put something like that in the song.

 

Just heard the song on Reddit. I’d actually say that it’s genuinely good until that spoken word part. For most of the song you’re like, “Wow, is Max back?” and then he shoots himself in the foot.

What’s especially hard to believe is that people like Fred Mascherino and Brian Warren would attach themselves to a song like this, unless they somehow didn’t get the reference or Max added that part without them knowing.

 

Is there like a Reddit post or something summarizing what this Darren person's involvement with Max is? I am not quite familiar with it I think and would be interested in a recap

He was the the drummer for Mutemath and was also in a band called Earthsuit. He was also in Say Anything for a while and had a lot to do with I Don’t Think It Is. He’s married to Stacey DuPree from Eisley, which makes him Max’s brother-in-law. And, apparently, people think he and Stacey called child protective services on Max and Sherri.

I’m going to generously assume he’s going for an unhinged vibe, and until he says that completely tasteless shit about a real person in his life at the end there, to be honest ”Psyche!” is a real banger. First 3/4 of the song sounds like vintage Say Anything, and Max’s vocals sound better than they have in years, I can even live with the manic jank rap ending but that outro phrase is just batshit

Why is he like this when he’s so talented otherwise

 

Nice to see Max writing something that sounds like a tight song again and not just some jumbled mess..until the end when it becomes a mess lol

 

ha you guys weren't kidding. the lyrics go off the rails wayyyy before the end though. pretty sure there's a breakdown where he scream sings "we fucked your wives". hope he gets help, this is not poetry I want to spend much time parsing.
