The Kim thing is a cesspool on Twitter. Chrissy Teigen tweeted like 10 or so tweets about it which were really good. My fave:

And yeah the jokes started immediately which is disturbing, the hate Kim gets makes me sad

Chrissy keeps it real. Like she said, she's seen both sides. Being poor and being a celeb. I couldn't do it. Being scrutinized for everything would literally kill me mentally.

"Journalist" doxxes author, who's made it clear that she uses it to protect her privacy, just because he can. He even said that because it's a pseudonym, she's given up all rights to privacy and asking for someone to reveal her real ID.

ppl are mostly pissed because of the clear invasion of privacy and the fact that the journalist doesn't seem to think that a woman could write like that. Also, he doesn't seem to get the idea that "fact =/= fiction".

This is unrelated and rather small scale, so please don't let me disrupt the flow of conversation. The talk in the General Politics thread re: making people uncomfortable made me realize that I have been unsuccessful at stopping myself from using "you guys" as a collective even when it's not applicable. I've been trying to deprogram that for, like, years now. I need to start pinching myself when I do that or something. If I've ever done that in / on here, I apologize.

I always have to remind myself that that's gendered, y'all is the best substitute I've found so far

I tend to make the same mistake. I usually assume a user is male unless their username has a women's name within it or early on they begin a post mentioning their experience as a woman. I don't tend to click on people's profiles to check if they list a gender. And I admit my thinking is part of a larger problem where the music scene isn't as inclusive to female fans as it should be. I apologize if I came off as making any female user here uncomfortable in language I've used in my posts.

"Y'all" is one I go to pretty often. Plus, I feel like it ties me to my Appalachian roots haha

heh, yeah I've just about completely tricked my brain into replacing "guys" with "y'all". Helps I worked at a cafe a couple years ago and my boss would rail on us for approaching a table and addressing them as "guys". She suggested folks, but that one doesn't always work naturally for me in a conversation, idk

Folks comes up pretty naturally for me. I think it's because I used to manage campaigns in Ohio, which encouraged a certain amount of folksiness. "You guys" is just such a microaggression.

"You all" has been my fave for years, with the occasional abbreviation to "y'all". "Everyone" works well in some cases, too.

I always liked saying y'all cause I think it's funny. Or team if that's applicable.

"Guys" has been my go to for years, I really want to just shift the connotation to lean feminine

    What are we talking about?

"You lot" is my favorite for sure. I think y'all is too informal for me to get used to and I'm from the Northeast, so that's never going to sound right coming out of my mouth.

That said, I think the use of the word "guys" has changed to the point where it's pretty well understood that it refers to a group of people regardless of gender. I get that the definition is gendered, but modern use isn't and I don't think it will be in the future as language evolves. I'm open to not using it if it's a microaggression, but I'm not aware of anyone actually being bothered by it and I know I'm not.
