This live show solidified Edging as being the perfect comeback song for me. Nod to a Ramones-style punk song but with clever, angsty, slightly dark lyrics and killer back-and-forth verse chorus trade-offs. It sounds like celebration, nostalgia, and a bright future all at the same time. Also, it immediately fit right in the set and deserves a staple spot.

So long as we don't have to wait a year or something for the album I am fine waiting. I also really don't need more than one more single to be sufficiently hyped. Edging was a perfect reintro. A song that is more complex and progressive would be ideal and then the guessing game of what the entire album will be like is part of the fun.

 

Just watched it again.

-Edging was so fucking fun live. That’s gotta get the crowds going on tour.

-this was the first version of I Miss You where I was like “oh. My. God. That was legendary” since the Pepsi smash performance.

-Tom’s new guitar is so rad. It sounded appropriate for each song. Perks for going digital! Although it is super weird to not see amps on stage haha.

—Marks bass still sounds incredible. Can’t get over how he brought the OG pink bass back.

 

first time playing Aliens with Tom since 2001?????????? Wowie. They sounded incredible.

this one made wish we got to see the Enema celebration with Tom.

 

It was really cool seeing them play quite a few Enema deep cuts.

I maintain that all 3 of the serious TOYPAJ bonus tracks should have made the record. I don’t know exactly in place of what, but they’re too good to be relegated to bonus tracks that a good percentage of people probably don’t gen know exist

Obviously Online Songs would be cool, but we’ve never gotten that. The two up top have been payed before and need to be brought back!

"Give me one good reason" and "please take me home" shouldve been b-sides.

Looks like when Mark said "Hi John" he was talking to Feldy. He posted about Travis having him out and some videos of them in the front of the crowd.

 

Lally was there too. I’m choosing to believe it was him

 

Some thoughts:

Mark's voice really has benefited from some rest & not having to carry the majority of vocal duties. It also probably didn't help that a lot of California & Nine were out of his vocal range.

Really don't see how California or Nine get worked into the setlist, outside of Built This Pool, Brohemian Rhapsody & perhaps Happier Days.

Besides them just having an all around blast and sounding great, there was a definite difference in Tom's attitude towards the old songs this time around. Some funny changes in the vocals, but not the monster voice. The '09 reunion just had this feeling of "Ugh, First Date & ATST are so beneath an artist of my stature". IDK, maybe watching someone else give those songs the performance they deserved the last 5 years was a good "wake up".
