Didn't stop their worst three albums from doing well

I think too often we are stuck in this microcosm on this site where people still care about legacy acts. Outside of us, and our friends maybe, the demand is not there anymore. Look at the tour itself, stacked with talent, poor turnout. We're seeing it time and time again from bands that the general public doesn't pay attention to anymore. Yes, maybe the marketing could have been more, or the label could have tried harder or whatever, but ignoring the fact that TBS are not as hip as we make them out to be is missing half the battle

This site isn't the only place I socialize about music. People are still very much aware of and interested in tbs outside of here. Several of my friends a. had no idea they were coming through last month but wanted to go when they found out or would have wanted to go if they knew and b. had no clue they had a new album coming out or in some cases were even still around. Here's an example: this same thing happens every JEW cycle. But watch, I'll bet any amount of money IB outsells TW by a lot. Sure, it will be a varying degree of factors as to why that is, but I believe one of those factors is the label

I don't come from the marketing industry or know many trends within it. But from an outsider's perspective, I have noticed how much marketing has been going on after the album was released compared to the build up to release day. The band are doing numerous interviews (Way more than they did before the release), I'm hearing more about it on the radio now that its out, Live streaming of performances/Interviews have been happening like crazy, and I've noticed more ad's on sites after the fact.

I definitively noticed that as well, it's an interesting approach for sure, but not unheard of. It leads to the most saturation during week of release, which is a good thing

I'm curious about the Jimmy Eat World album for sure. I guess just because personally I haven't been keeping up with that album, but I hope it does well, I guess we'll see how it goes in a few weeks

I can see it doing decent. I've been hearing new songs at MLB games, on radio, had a tv performance on Colbert, and ad's everywhere. Fingers crossed it's something big for them

See and I think some songs from this tbs album could get those placements. It's a solid straight up alt rock record with some super high energy tracks. To me it feels like certain markets they could tap into aren't being touched. Instead, at least to me, it seems they stuck to outlets where people already know about tbs in 2016

Not sure it's quite the appropriate approach, but Ryan from Yellowcard is being very chatty in their new album thread, I am sure he has a lot of intel into Hopeless as a label. Not that he'd ever talk badly about them probably, but could be an interesting conversation

Why do people come to forums of bands, video games, movies, tv etc that they feel this way about and expect the fans populating said forum are going to be like "by golly joe he is right! Something we like does actually suck!!!" I mean....seems like a waste of time. Also I disagree with you.

But I really thought that was why sales were bad. Then Jake pointed out there other 3 releases were bad. So here we are.

He said their worst three albums still sold well....he never said they were 'bad'. And this is their 7th album so it couldn't be 'the other three'. Also, *their

well to be fair i do think those albums (new again, s/t, and happiness is) are bad hehe. but my point was that the perceived lack of quality for some didnt stop the records from doing well.

That's a matter of opinion (I agree about NA). But my point to Nate still stands despite that right? Lol

Yeah that helps for sure, but boy do I get the overall feeling that there's an overall mindset of "they're still a band?" these days, which is a bummer. The last album sold 13k, so similar to or slightly less than that is my guess

Well the point of your original post was that I came in to just dump on the band, which I didn't.

How dare you sully my honor.

Yeah this album has songs that could totally be radio rock singles, as rare as those are now. Not to mention they slayed that market once upon a time with "MakeDamnSure" and "Liar"

Taking Back Sunday won't continue with numbers like that, one would assume. Even if touring is your money maker, that last tour (TOC) didn't sell well, and they've all got mouths to feed. I was hoping this album would reinvent them as a rock band, they'd get picked up by someone else, and be okay.

Then again, who knows what they've made or what the continue to make in Back catalog. I hope it's enough to sustain them.

I'm convinced They need to play a late night show or get on tv somehow, I feel like that could boost some interest for the album

And that's probably not Hopeless' fault, the last three albums they haven't done anything beyond Adam and John acoustic. I'd love to see any of these songs on late night. I know they played New Again songs on Kimmel at least.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. The band still has a solid draw+back catalogue and a recent Adam interview made it sound like they were planning on being around for as long as physically possible.

Idk the size of the venues they're playing but if they're selling out most of the tour they're doing, they'll be fine. And I don't see them ever ignoring this record, they seem super proud of it and should be.
