Harry Potter sucks and is for babies and adults with babybrains.

Anytime a 30+ year old tells me they still love HP I immediately become sus.

 

Harry Potter was wildly popular with LGBTQ folks of all ages who had to grapple with their relationship to that work and the disgusting views of the author and I'm not sure how helpful shitting on it is, personally. I've read deconstructions from trans writers who grew up loving the series and found a lot of insight in their thoughts.

That said, yes, the franchise is also wildly popular with lots of the most annoying people in the world. Because it is one of the most massively popular franchises ever. It's in a Star Wars sphere where it's so ubiquitous that categorizing fans of the product as any one thing or sharing any one trait is impossible.

No one should work with or defend JK Rowling, and it's disappointing (but not surprising) that it's an IP being bled for any value it has with audiences who don't know/care about Rowling's views. I hope that Rowling's aggressive and cruel transphobia becomes the primary narrative of Harry Potter's legacy, and that investment into the IP eventually fades because of that.

 

I'm not removing those people's memories or connections.

We just don't need to have more content from and give more fame to someone who's such a dehumanizing piece of shit.

Why would we want more Harry Potter to exist knowing where the money goes and who's in control of the franchise? She can literally rewrite whatever she wants for the new series and be as hateful and spiteful as she wants.

Fuck JK Rowling. Keep your old books and memories if that's what you want.

It’s absolutely fuck JK Rowling and we don’t need a new series but all the “Harry Potter is dumb and bad” or “I never liked Harry Potter anyways” literally doesn’t do anything. Like pat yourself on the back I guess?

If you’re so much smarter than everyone here you’d know that she’ll make money on it no matter her creative involvement because she owns the franchise and she’s stated multiple times that she considers those dollars to be support for her anti-trans rhetoric

 

Let me irrationally hate on things and people tastes please Sheriff. It is fun and If there is any franchise I should be allowed to do that for it is this.

 

This has come up in the past and I can’t find any direct links, but I don’t think it’s helpful for queer folks, especially trans people obviously, to have to deal with the creator of a franchise that may have meant a lot to them and then on top of it be told they have “a baby brain” for having liked it in the first place. I do understand what you’re saying but it’s just not a useful addition to the conversation

 

also something to add with other art being by shitty people is that most of the times they try to hide it or distance it or have some sort of cognitive dissonance and Joanne was straight up using her personal Facebook and Twitter to say Autistic people are being brainwashed into thinking they're trans, not that it's okay if they're covert about it but she's shameless

 

The author being a piece of shit shouldn’t really justify bashing someone who grew up with HP and found healing or acceptance in it/a community around the franchise. The books are really well done. The world she created was indeed magical to billions. And since her books actually paint her as a villain (despite her saying the opposite, which is fucking hilarious that she doesn’t understand her own books), the values or thoughts people got from them feel better, knowing they cast judgment on her.

Art by monstrous people is complicated. With that said, fuck Max for doing this with her. I’m sure they had no choice if they wanted to use the IP, but maybe let it go for awhile. Fuck JKR forever and ever.

This Ottoman Netflix show just straight up erasing Mehmed II and Radu the Fair's queer relationship.

"They're like Brothers" yeah ok in real life Radu was his concubine but ok Netflix.

 

Being a former casual “Harry Potter” fan, I would love for nothing more than the show to suck ass. I feel bad for the kids that will be cast and how they’ll have to answer questions about Rowling for a decade.

 

The only thing I’ll add to the Harry Potter talk is good luck to those actors who will also have to deal with having to live up to portrayals we aren’t even that far removed from. It’s like redoing Star Wars and recasting Luke and Leia. They tried it for Han and it didn’t work.
