I guess it's my turn to play armchair festival organizer.

Riot Fest is the only party to act in good faith on this issue (sans dipshit guy from last year). Surprisingly, Riot Fest has more power in this dynamic (they're not a Live Nation behemoth). So them taking initiative to open dialogue and offer solutions is the logical, ethical step.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the community needs to find themselves a spokesperson. Someone who can consolidate their will and direct it towards the solutions they want in a cool, collected manner (cooler heads always prevail). A select few in the community want them gone, but their actions state they could care less about solving the problem. Even if that solution is Riot Fest leaving Douglass. Words these days seem rather meaningless, but who you give your word too matters. That's why I'm basing this loose analysis off actions.

I'm not sure how much North Lawndale gets from local government funding and revenue. But the community needs to understand what they're giving up by not having Riot Fest at Douglass such as temporary employment, district revenue, beautification projects, etc. Also, if Riot Fest falls, there's people out of a job, and not just the people who directly work for Riot Fest. The people behind this are not addicted to greed and maximizing profits over people.

I live in a high-dense area that has festivals throughout the year, and yes, it is an inconvenience. But no more than that. Instead of channeling everything I'm possibly angry about into festival logistics, I work around it and adapt for the time being. Yes, there's some extra steps, but a willingness to take those extra steps eliminates the frustration of the inconvenience.

We're also living in different time now. The complaints pre-Covid made sense. But since Covid, we've had crisis after crisis. And will continue to have crisis after crisis based on past events. There's bigger fish to fry. And this whole issue with Riot Fest now that the other festivals are gone is futile.

Edit: This is the first and last time I'm speaking on this filler content for the forum. It's grating.

I’m not really seeing anything that makes me think it won’t happen at Douglas again. I can’t stress it enough, that most people don’t really care if the festival happens or not. There small vocal groups strongly opposed and for the festival being there. If most of the large institutions such as hospitals don’t care and all of the processing items are done, there is no reason to think that it won’t happen again.

This one has a strong mid-card, which I'm really hoping that's part of the lineup this year.

My one general complaint (more so for last year's RF lineup) is to have at least 2-3 non-hip/hop solo artists higher up on the festival bill (ex. Iggy Pop, Siouxsie Sioux, Billy Idol). There's Bleachers and Yungblud, but someone who just goes by their name like Jeff Rosenstock would be nice.

    Give what you can.

I've always thought Liam Gallagher would be a blast at RiotFest. A few other solo acts off the top of my head that I'd love to see at Riot some day include David Byrne, Nick Cave, Alanis Morissette, Sturgill Simpson, John K Samson, Rhett Miller, and Nicole Atkins.

So we keeping Tegan & Sara in play? It does line up…….plus these two tweets. Doesn’t make sense to hold off on a headlining show.

  6. I think they're likely, but Taste of Chicago would also make sense for them.

Would be cool. But given the timing and their use of "Illinois" instead of "Chicago" I have a feeling it'll be something else.

  9. They specifically said Chicago a couple times. I guess it could be one of the suburban fests or something, but those have tended more towards cover bands and legacy acts recently.

I don’t see Tegan & Sara playing any of the street festivals and Taste of Chicago has gone downhill in terms of the music lineup recently. I know it’s 50/50 if Paramore is playing but could Tegan and Sara into Paramore on the same stage be a possibility?

Balance & Composure's back - announced four summer shows, none in Chicago.

I remember someone mentioning them, but Babymetal is out. Playing Chicago 9/21

This probably means nothing because they both played Chicago last year according to a Google search, and don't *feel* like Riot bands, but there's no Chicago date on this tour:

  14. I don't really know Babymetal, but Dethklok is out too because of that tour, and I always thought they would be a fun novelty booking for Riot Fest.

Mr. Bungle announced a tour that ends in the Midwest in September. I think it's pretty safe to say they're playing.

  16. With Battles, who are not a Riot Fest band at all but I would love to see them on the lineup anyway.

Fair point RE: the Chicago mentions! I had some recency bias there... And, y'know, thinking about it? We really are within a month of the line-up release this week. So a "couple weeks" could arguably fit.

Snuck up on me this year!

Would make a lot of sense considering they dropped in 2021.

Too, I could definitely see B&C on the bill as an early afternoon Radical/Rise grab (or an early evening Rebel act).

I wonder if this year they get Bungle, and then next year they get FNM

I think they'd have to do an after show too so they could do their own thing instead of playing a 35 min set at 2:30 on Saturday.

Foo Fighters were announced for this today, which leads me to believe they could be a likely candidate for Riot

They announced a Virgina Beach show on 9/19 and they play SeaHearNow on 9/17. Its possible although it seems they will be on the East Coast that weekend

B&C doing Things We Think We're Missing and then a standard aftershow would be awesome

And for good measure have Superheaven do the same thing with Jar and play the aftershow together

They could easily be in play for Friday, but I just can't picture Foo at Riot (wouldn't mind being wrong)
