I live in SC and there are many a rumor about Lindsay's personal life that he knows that his conservative base would not like. Ultimately he is a power hungry piece of shit and whatever he needs to do to stay in power he will. He fucking sucks.

 

I've read several stories / op-eds / analyses that say that facing multiple indictments at once makes your defense exponentially harder and your likelihood of being convicted much higher. There's probably some truth to that idea for anyone other than donald trump, but I am concerned that the first case being brought against him also appears to be the one with the shakiest legal foundation and the least grievous against the country. Lying about hush-money payments made in an attempt to hide an extramarital sexual affair vs. openly and brazenly attempting to overturn an election because you lost & hoarding classified documents in your personal possession just because you feel like it. Also the fact that many legal analysts say these charges amount to misdemeanors. My biggest concern is that this gives trump an opening to really push the political persecution / witch-hunt narrative and he and his supporters will constantly refocus their attention and ire and successfully refocus the media's attention and focus back onto this first case and just completely blow by and ignore any subsequent cases - obviously all of this is assuming any of the other investigations lead to him being indicted again in the first place. I don't think any other politician would be able to successfully do this but I do think if anyone alive would be able to pull that off it would be donald trump.

I personally don't think anyone should be above the law in this country, but I am also adult enough to know that I've been watching donald trump be completely and utterly above the law during his entire presidency and throughout this entire process so far.

 

I mean just the lawyer fees alone trying to deal with what is at four cases has to be insane but you reap what you sow.

 

Does this move the needle at all in terms of his likelihood of getting re-elected? I have to think his overall approval rating has fallen compared to 2020 and 2016, especially with moderates. I know his base is loyal to the end, but there must be a significant portion of the population that voted for him originally that is tired of this garbage.

Also demographics have changed since 2016, and Gen Z is actually turning out to vote if the WI election is any indication.

I'm hopeful that even if he gets the nomination it won't even be close.

 

I really do think we are in uncharted waters in more ways than one: any former president / Republican frontrunner for president being charged like this, and donald j. trump in 2023/2024 being charged like this in the political climate and media landscape of our country right now.

 

I think he's all but guaranteed to win the Republican primary and doomed in the general. Demographics have changed, he's lost more supporters than gained, and people are just really sick of the guy. But his base has 100% solidified control of the Republican party, there's nothing they can do.

 

I think Donald Trump loses to anyone not named Clinton, charges or no charges. Shy of a major catastrophe of some sort changing conditions, he’ll lose.

 

Lindsay literally has "I'M HIDDING SOOOO MUCH SHIT" on his face at all times. I can't wait for it all to spread like wildfire lol.

 

Yep that's my take as well. Between more younger leftists and libs showing up, and moderates turned off from Trump, and covid killing old more likely right wing people in every state, all of that chips away at the margins. So Trump in order to win would either 1. Need people to not show up to vote against him/for Biden, or 2. Convince new voters to vote for him.

I don't see this accomplishing either 1 or 2, IMO

The gop being split between culture war weirdos and people who think banks have more rights than people is gonna help us

 

It's even down to MAGA/Jan6ers and Desantis/Anti-Vaxxers. Like those groups are splintering from the infighting.

I do hope all of this is true. But I also hoped that being indicted would have hurt trump politically and it did not appear to at all yesterday. I know we are still early in the election and in this legal process.
