Andrew McMahon did a track-by-track breakdown for his new album:

“Submarine” was written for the second Wilderness album, Zombies on Broadway. At the time, I was living in New York making the album and I completely spun out. I wasn’t sleeping, working insane hours, and going out until the sun came up most days. It started as a lot of fun, but by the end, I’d really lost myself.

I wish I was into the direction he has been going with this project but I’m just not. Haven’t really dig much other than a few songs after the first Wilderness album. I still need to check this album out but none of the singles did it for me.

i always love when artists give you a little peak inside of what they’re thinking, dreaming, writing about. i really miss the production butch walker offered andrew on his last album. i do love the track, “nobody tells you when you were young” but that’s about it for this album. gonna give it another go in a few days and see if i feel different but something is just off.

Check out Submarine and Smoke and Ribbons. I feel the same as you and I love those 2 songs.
