Just watched 21 Jump Street (2012) for the first time last night and fucking hell, that was hilarious. Will watch 22 tonight

Posted in the Trek thread but new Paramount+ Star Trek spinoff just got announced. Discovery and Picard are both ending, which would leave Strange New Worlds as the lone live action Star Trek show so a lot of people were waiting for an announcement of something to fill the void.

  3. I never got into star trek but it's cool they're making so much new stuff. You just don't hear about it as much as star wars because the fans aren't as noisy(/annoying)

Picard season 3 has been incredible and so far has just been the producers finally deciding to give the die hard Trekkies everything they have been asking for since they started doing new series, but I have not heard anyone outside the Trekkie bubble talk about how great it is.

Picard season 3 honestly is leagues better than Mando season 3 so far. Which is saying a lot since the first two seasons of Picard were terrible.

I would say in my opinion best to get into it and get a grasp on the universe and lore without it feeling like a long chore is to find a list of essential TNG episodes and just watch those and skip the filler. Then do the same with DS9 (which is the best Star Trek, and honestly might be the best piece of televised sci-fi ever made) and Voyager. TOS while being great isn't that essential to getting into Trek, tons of Trekkies barely ever watch the Shatner/Kirk stuff.

I’m obsessed with Star Trek. It might be tied with One Piece for my favorite long running franchise.
Yep. It’s like a totally different show.
I would say to start with individual stand-alone episodes and go from there. All the series are the same continuity, but you definitely don’t have to watch everything. I know Halitosis Jones has been good with picking different arcs from series like Voyager and picking those. I always recommend the episode The Inner Light, one of my favorite episodes of television. Is there a series or character you want to start with?

Yep, that’s the best starter Trek. The joke is that the first two seasons of every Trek show are a slog before it gets really good. So if you’re not feeling it, look up episodes for different arcs, since they’re scattered throughout the series. I’d say the main storylines are Data and his family, Worf and his relationship with the Klingons, and the Borg encounters.

Letswatchstartrek.com's episode guides of what is essential and what is skippable really helped when I first went deep into getting into Star Trek.

Memory Alpha which is the main canon Star Trek wiki has also been a huge help in getting into that universe.

My dad has been a line cook for almost 40 years, so trying to get him to watch The Bear was like trying to convince someone to relive their trauma lol

The go to TNG episodes I always recommend for non-Trekkies are 2x9 The Measure of A Man and 5x2 Darmok. Mainly because I think those really highlight the intellectualism, humanism, and idealism that sets Star Trek apart from other "nerdy" franchises.

DS9 5x13 Far Beyond The Stars is in that category too.

Can someone tell me which is the TNG episode where they're on like a pirate ship? I assume it's a holodeck thing, so maybe it happens multiple times. I just remember that from when I was a kid and wanted to re-watch that one.

Are you talking about Star Trek Generations? There was a scene in the beginning where the TNG cast is in a 18th century holodeck program recreating the HMS Enterprise.

My bad. Someone mentioned Star Trek and I got in. We normally go in the Star Trek thread. I didn’t even know we had one just for sci-fi.

  20. It's cool, no worries! Just wanted to bring it up since, yeah, it doesn't seem like a lot of people know it's there. I honestly don't mind the discussion in here

I only posted about Trek in here because all Trek talk and news on this board in usually confined to just the 5 or 6 of us that regularly post in the Star Trek Thread lol
