Can someone please explain what being indicted actually means as if you were explaining it to a 40-year-old man who has only a hazy understanding of the term...

He'll be arrested and all that. I'm sure it'll be a lot nicer and quicker of a process than if it were you or I. He'll be released after he's formally charged and wait to stand trial.

If Trump were to go to jail (he won't) I fully believe he would still win the nomination and would campaign by releasing videos from his prison cell

 

In federal court, if the prosecutors want to charge someone then they need a grand jury to vote to indict them, which means that that person is officially charged and the case has begun

First step in a case is to have an initial hearing just to (1) verify that the person is aware of exactly what they’re charged with, and (2) to address conditions of release (or non-release) as the case is pending, commonly known as a bail hearing. Everyone gets one. I’m not sure if the federal courts are permitted to deny someone bail, but I really doubt they would hear if they can. I honestly have no idea what conditions would be put on him, but it will probably be very minimal

 

No, they can charge with just a summons instead of an arrest warrant and just schedule a hearing that he has to show up at. He will have to get booked, but that’s different from getting arrested
