Man that is rough. The fact that they recruited fans to come live with them and help them continue this scam is incredibly fucked up. It’s seriously some cult like tactic manipulation going on and the worst abuse of power. I can’t believe these morons are continuing to get booked on large festivals.

You are giving Max a lot of credit by assuming he is going to follow through on actually playing those shows lol.

He won't and then blame someone else and then go do some overpriced live stream where he sounds like shit instead lol.

Super upsetting about Max being a trashbag because I just found this

It’s a shame how formative I let this band be

Still thankful for the good times but they’re a ways away

I try to look at it like an old best friend. Who they are now doesn't nullify that we had good times back in the day.

    But man, dammnit.

Yeah but listening to some of those lyrics now is super uncomfortable

I mean for me and a lot of us, let's face it half the crap we listened to in the early 2000's is pretty problematic.

yeesh, this is pretty bleak that he's trying to sell his catalog rights now...

Seems like a low number too for the entire catalog.

Is this him selling it though or Sony? Seems like only the major label stuff is on there

Are we sure it's definitely him selling? Like does he definitely own the rights?

My understanding may be off but IIRC Max is the sole owner of the compositions, and Sony is the music publisher who distributes the songs to be used commercially. So essentially SMP distributes/sells the songs on behalf of the composer in exchange for a percentage of the earnings.
So if Max is selling his stake in his publishing, Sony will continue to distribute the music, but Max will no longer collect the royalties. The buyer will.

Anyone smarter than me who can confirm if that's correct? lol

I don't know enough to confirm or deny, but it definitely feels like a modern Bemis move

They’ve also listed their house for sale on Zillow. They are in need of some money it seems.

  23. What about eventual new music released under Say Anything? I'm trying to wrap my heard around this sale because this seems such a drastic measure.

I'd imagine it's only pertaining to the existing catalog.

So if he's selling his stake for only $280k, it sounds like in about 7-8 years you can make back that investment, and then from there forward collect straight profit (based off his catalog's earnings in recent years). Not a terrible investment if you have the money.

I already assumed the plan was to sell the catalogue to buy a house, but interesting to confirm it. Idk I continue to worry for them & their kids more than anything at this point.
