    Well, this doesn't sound amicable.

I think "leaves" is doing some pretty heavy lifting in that headline. It very much sounds like he was kicked out. I'd very much like to get the band's side of this. It's strange to me that they've not put out anything on the matter yet.

Kinda bummed they haven’t addressed it yet. I’m assuming it’s because they are drafting their update because they didn’t know James was going to post that.

They're in the middle of a tour, play tonight and played Monday night in AZ. I wonder if something happened or his behavior and/or performance on the tour hasn't met band standards for any number of potential reasons.

From what I’ve heard, he hasn’t been on the current tour

I saw them last Friday and they mentioned that James has been home for personal reasons and he’s been working.

James hasn't been involved in the writing/recording of the past few records, but I didn't know he wasn't on this tour as well. "I was informed..." definitely leaves some questions unanswered.

If this is true then I can't totally blame the band for removing him. If he was essentially just a touring guitarist for hire and wasn't putting in the work to write/record maybe they felt his priorities were elsewhere and he was freeloading off their work.

He (and Grant) haven’t even played on the last two records so my guess is it’s been over for awhile.

I believe it’s more that the main writers (Tim, Spencer and Aaron) don’t give him and Grant much option to help write. They did it all themselves. So I think from what I’ve heard he want given a chance to help much. So it’s probably just finally time for him to leave.

I think that needs some context. Based off what I’ve understood in their interviews & studio updates over the years, that was their choice to not have him be part of the writing.

maybe I’m wrong but I always got the vibe that they were hyper controlling of that writing process and not so much that he didn’t want to be a part of it.

also, given the FIR news, their own admissions about their process, and this move, they don’t seem like fun guys to be around lately.

Found it super odd that he wasn't onstage when I saw them over the weekend, and even odder that not a single post in the past few weeks mentioned why. I'll never forget during the Rebirth Tour in 2016 how the poor guy got hit with food poisoning the day of the Vegas show and he was absolutely wrecked. He had to stand off to the side of the stage while playing and was sitting on a case with his head slumped in between songs. What a trooper for toughing it out.

Genuinely feel bad that he's been let go because I can understand that he'd feel quite sad after all the years and work he put into his time with the band.

Definitely thought it was weird that he wasn't up there when I saw them Sunday night. I knew that he (and Grant) weren't very involved (if at all) in the recording process, but still thought that he was a valued part of the band.

They played great but overall it felt like something was missing with James not there.

underøath hasn’t been the same band since Ø disambiguation. i’m indifferent and didn’t care for their last two records. they’ve meant a lot to me in my life but this doesn’t sound good at all.
