I got burned really badly in my last actual relationship a few years ago so I'm kind of in a once bitten twice shy mentality. I miss some aspects of it, but I don't think it's worth the time, effort, stress, etc. I'm content just meeting and dating lots of different people right now and maybe in another few years I'll have a different mindset.

For me, a relationship has always been about finding the person I want to share everything with, from the most exciting to the most mundane.
I view a relationship as like the ultimate friendship. It's all about finding your best friend for me.

finished the sixth Harry Potter book for the first time last night and when Dumbledore talks about how Voldemort doesn't have friends, doesn't like people or want friends all i could think was, "shit, i'm more like this massive angry lunatic murdering wizard than anyone else in this series".

 

I feel the same way when they describe a mass murderer as a loner, like is that how people see me I hope not

haha same. luckily i tend to wear bright colors and while i'm quiet i tend to be the comic of meetings and workplace nonsense so i think i fall out of view.

but i still wonder if i'm immediately subconsciously (or consciously) pictured by family, coworkers, former friends and SO's when, "quiet, caucasian, loner gunman" gets broadcast across the country.

worst part is - aside from work, grocery shopping or being at the gym, i'm home alone so i would have no alibi

I definitely don't feel like I'm missing something being single, which is good. For some, being in a relationship is a default state but mine is being single and it's what feels natural. I haven't dated in like 5 years tho. When I broke up with my ex it was weird not having him to talk to when something happened in my life cause he was always that person I told everything to, but now I've found other people and outlets to replace it, and now I'm not even sure how I'd fit another person into my life.

My excuses have always been true - I'm focused on my job, I like my alone time, I'm very particular - but the reality is, I am so damn boring.

 

Tbh, at this point of my life I'm kind of afraid to dip into the pool. I'm 28, have never been in a relationship (let alone even kissed someone), I'm in the middle of depression, health issues, dealing with a weight loss journey with more related surgery coming up in the next 8 months, and I'm working a job I hate.

Like, who the fuck would want to deal with all of that?

At the same time, I kinda just want a person to lean on who would support me instead of putting everything on my (sometimes asshole) friends. Meh meh meh

being out of a relationship totally sucks...at first...my most recent relationship was the longest but i think i learned more about myself in such a short amount of time after we broke up that i'm like so much better for it and i love being single. emotional care reserved for yourself and ONLY yourself is super rewarding and i recommend it to everyone, ever, at all times.

 

Eh, I've been single for like five years now. I don't think there has ever been a time when I was satisfied being single. I'm comfortable with it, but being with somebody makes me much happier. Now that I don't live with my ex (been free from that hell for about a year now) hopefully all this dating I'm doing will lead to something

I was in the same boat where a lot of that is concerned. 29, never had a real relationship, overweight (not morbidly so, but I was considered obese until I lost 35 pounds and am still borderline), have serious depression I'm always working on, pretty much constantly stressed from my job. And now I'm with my best friend and the happiest I've ever been. It can happen. Not saying be obsessed with chasing it, but never hurts to be open to it.

 

I like being in a relationship. I love learning about people. I love finding different music and books that my boyfriend loves and vice versa. I was single for years before I started talking to him, I had so many trust issues and didn't let myself get close to anyone after two abusive relationships. We just take each day as it comes and share everything. He's my best friend, I feel boring a lot of the time and yet he's still completely interested in me lol. I'm so happy thanks to him and it's been amazing to watch him grow and achieve his goals!

 

Oh man. I'm so glad it worked out and you're happy! I'm definitely open to things happening in that realm, I'm just not actively searching for it. If someone decides they want to put up with my shit, then more power to them. lol

 

I learned that being with someone who is different than you can be extremely fun and surprisingly a lot easier/natural in plenty of ways
