    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

The Wonder Years have always been (even admittedly themselves) a band that thrives in a live environment. After two years of no live music, it doesn't shock me that people are running out to see them in droves.

Oh yeah, oh yeah, everything is terrible.

even for the "nostalgia tour" here, they did dates here in a 1500 capacity room and an 800 capacity room, and for this latest tour they did a 2500 capacity room (and sold it out, or damn near anyways!)

    It's a short run, but it's still a run.

I didn't get tickets for the Wonder Years tour before it sold out, and I couldn't go because the prices never dropped below $100 on the secondhand market. So ya I think they're doing fine

This. For me an album anniversary tour is more an opportunity for fans to listen to a classic album and songs that are not play as often since their release. It became nostalgia when it becomes a gimmick for the band and when fans doesnt care about your newer albums, which happnes in the examples you mentioned (feel bad as I like Tidal Wave by TBS)

The Wonder Years have played 11/12 songs off of Hum on the last two tours. TBS has played 2(?) off of Tidal Wave in the times I've seen them.

TBS wasted time playing Tidal Wave in full on a tour that started before or right when Tidal Wave released.

The last 4 1/2 times I’ve seen the Wonder Years, I’ve been blown away by how different each set has felt from all the others. They definitely curate new and varied experiences for their fans.

one was a regular (ish) tour supporting Sister Cities, but they did a very reasonable VIP package that included merch, a group photo, and access to their sound check where they played fan requests. That was well worth it.

the next time was their semi-acoustic tour, where old songs got rearranged in new ways.

The next one (which I half-counted) was their livestream set during the pandemic where they split into 2 bands, did blink 182 covers, then came back together for a TWY set. It was by far the best and most creative “virtual concert” of the whole pandemic.

The next show was the Upsides/Suburbia tour. My only regret is that I didn’t go to more dates.

By the time I caught them doing a regular festival set at When We Were Young, it was the first one of its kind that I had seen in 4 years. They made a regular “just the hits” 30 minute festival set seem fresh and different to a die hard fan who has seen them plenty of times. Those guys are truly special.

It's always funny to me how bands do full albums right after they are released. WCAR just did it too.

I have a friend who likes these shows because he already knows the whole album a week after it's out and he says that many of these songs might not be ever played again live.

You say wasted time, I say made the most of releasing a fantastic album and I’m glad I went

    The intrusive whisper fascinates me

Primus did that when I saw them in 2011 after they released Green Naugahyde. The played one set of old songs, did an intermission, played the new album in full, then an encore. Was a pretty cool time

Pretty easy process for Boygenius tickets this morning, might have helped they booked some pretty ambitious venues.

I kept getting a 403 page when I tried to join queues (guess they think I'm a bot) but eventually I was able to snag a decent seat in the middle group of seats!

Suicide Machines hold probably my favorite ever Warped Tour story. At Randalls Island in 2003, the singer had a portion of the crowd wall of death and ice cream truck which resulted in people surrounding an ice cream truck and people stage diving off the top of it. Probably a nightmare for whoever was working in it but wild to see at the time.

Location wise yes but it’s been completely renovated so it’s all GA

Oh damn, didn’t know that! That makes a lot more sense.

As someone who lives outside the city and takes the train in a lot, the location is great for me because I can basically take it right there.
