it makes me appreciate the other singles more

 

This is the “knock you off your ass” National single for me (joining Fake Empire, Bloodbuzz, Don’t Swallow the Cap, and System). The other two were more “these guys are still pretty good, huh?” Little tricksters saving this for single #3. Excited for this record.

 

*The National are a band you enjoy recorded or live while seated. So, it is correct to say one would be “knocked OFF their ass” as opposed to on.

 

Immediately my favorite of the three released. Tropic Morning News and New Order T-Shirt were just those "yep, this is the national." This is interesting and unique with new vocal deliveries. Love it.

Love everything but the chorus

 

Really like the song, don’t love the chorus either. Also, New Order T-Shirt has fully grown on me

 

Good song! Tropic Morning News is still my favorite, but I like this a bit more than New Order T-Shirt.

 

After listening to this like 5 times in a row, it really has become clear to me that this song is like a mix of the grandiosity of HV, TWFM vibes, and drums from SWB (like Empire Line-ish). By far my favorite of the new singles (and I like TMN a lot and despite some qualms with the production- New Order T shirt definitely grew on me too). Good shit, can't wait for the rest of the album and to see them play this live in May.

Spoilertagging so that if you want to avoid hate you can Really wish i didn’t know how every new song by this band is going to go within the first 45 seconds. A song where Matt lists who gets what in a divorce feels like a 2016 parody of this band. Kinda like the guitar solo and the weird effect on the chorus, but the cascading horns bit feels like something they’ve been doing for like 15 years. Idk, I’ll listen to the record but I’m thinking I’m just not into this band anymore which is a bummer because they were probably my favorite band of the 10s.

 

Except all three songs end even better than they begin!

 

You knew the chorus was going to come in like that? I ain’t buying it.

 

The band sounds like this now for the same reason I sit at their shows. We old and tired. Let us be this way.
