I don't care whether it's Riot Fest or a second leg of tour - Paramore better be coming back to Chicago this year.

NGL, I'm really bummed about that Less Than Jake tour routing. I wasn't expecting them for Riot, but I was at least expecting them to come within driving distance of myself. And with the openers now I'm doubly bummed.

I'm not complaining as long as ACBTLD gets the same love at some point.

No Chicago date on Social D’s tour. “More to be announced”

I’m conflicted because I’ve read people say both they’re laying low because of the allegations made by his wife and also they are speculated to be in play but…a top 3 of Paramore, Postal Service (or Death Cab?), and Queens of the Stone Age seems plausible and like it would sell pretty well.

I do not follow QOTSA to know if that would be a booking causing mass outrage or not, but that’s what I’ve seen people speculate in the Facebook group and Reddit.

Seems plausible. But I think they would want somebody stronger/bigger on at least one of the dates. That just seems weak.

Like, I could see Paramore and a Postal Service/DCFC combo for two of the days. But you'd want a much stronger headliner on at least one of them to balance it out (e.g., Foo Fighters, Green Day, NIN, or whoever). Not suggesting those acts. But somebody of that size.

QOTSA are on Boston Calling this year and I honestly haven't heard a peep about any allegations until just now (and after a quick look--both him and Brody seem to have a history of being violent and toxic with one another).

I don't disagree with your point in the slightest haha but Furnace Fest had 4 songs that weren't on those albums, including a Texas is the Reason cover. For an 11 song set I was really happy with what they did.

You know, I think it would be nice to actually talk to the residents of the area and get their opinions and include those in an article instead of just one organizer (the article does not say where she lives), but alas.

We can get Paramore, Avril Lavigne, and Limp Bizkit this year.

I think that's my inherent "issue" with the articles around this. It's hard to tell just how vehement people are about it or even what the real issues are (above the obvious in that section of the park being taken up for X weeks). I would be more interested in what the residents have to say with more detail.

The narrative was previously "our parks are taken up too much" and now it seems to be incorporating some other issues that are a bit more vague (e.g., the statement about the hospital was hypothetical and given that the festival has been there for years now without issue really makes me question that one).

My (potentially naive and optimistic) take is that if it's actually a really big issue? Riot won't be there anymore because the people involved in signing the permits, etc. won't let it happen for one reason or another. And TBH, it's still kinda fucked that Riot Mike hasn't come out and said anything explicitly about what went down at that one meeting last year.

It's a complicated situation and I have no idea where I stand because I feel like I don't have the proper information to determine what an, even hypothetical, "real world" solution might be.

EDIT: This post is kind of a mess. But that's kind of the point I'm trying to make also. Haha. This is so convoluted with a lot of moving parts. Riot could get canceled tomorrow and if they said "The residents don't want us and we couldn't find a new place" I would fully get it and embrace it. Similarly, if they stayed because the folks in charge of singing permits deemed its acceptable? I would be okay with that too because (theoretically) it means it's not as big a deal as the media is making it seem. But I also don't trust politicians or the media. LOL I truly don't know what to think.

I think that is kind of where things are at though. Aside from the mess last year and scheduling too many festivals (both items that have either been fixed or have had changes made towards fixing) and now it's down to resident preference, which will be hard to truly gauge without going door to door. Some residents are vocally opposed and you see that festival weekend or in articles. Some residents have embraced it and you see that as well. And then a most likely large pool is more or less indifferent. I don't think that is too different from a lot of local issues in other places. It would not surprise me if the festival moves at some point, but I would be more surprised if it moved from Douglas Park this year.

They will play Riot again at some point, they have a festival appearance in Louisiville on Riot weekend but that's definitely a manageable drive so it could be this year.. Interrupters will eventually play Riot too, this year would be cool since the Bovina brothers are very good friends with Timebomb Tim aka Lint (jump to your own conclusions on that one)

Fuck. Both days are killer. Would love to see American Football, Origami Angel (I don't think they've played before, but they did do a RF presents show), Mest, and Punchline would be cool, though I doubt they would.
